considering plusnet, need speedtests

[link to this post]

Can plusnet FTTC customers run these speedtests and tell me if they as fast as your uk results?

speedtest.net - NL - hosted by ookla
speedtest.net - NL - nforce entertainment
speedtest.net - DE - hosted by vodafone.de
http://ipv4.sbg.proof.ovh.net/ and http://ipv4.rbx.proof.ovh.net/

I am mostly interested if performance is consistent between EU and UK so if the results are close to your uk speeds thats fine for me to just say that thanks, otherwise if dont mind please post the differences. Also traceroute to bbc.co.uk and voxility.ro would be appreciated thanks. Finally if speedtests are low if possible please try to retest off peak thanks.

Plusnet does seem the only uk FTTC isp to not charge the earth for a static ip and I do like how network techs are responding to customers directly as well so am currently seriously considering a move.

It's quite hard work finding these in the speedtest.net alphabetical dropdown list, if you post the full name as it appears I would be more inclined to do it!

Buying them out, although BT have already gave me an opt out because they have found a line fault on my line which they have refused to fix. Otherwise tho I am 4 months into a 12 month contract so would be MAC code then would owe them 8 months of the penalty fee. I wont be moving the line rental as well so penalty is just on the broadband side.

I didn't know there was a map view! I went to settings and the list is under Preferred Server.

Here's some tests from Sky Fibre for comparison, what's interesting is it's faster because it doesn't use PPPoE. Just a shame there isn't an option to buy a small range or even a single IP. I guess I should be happy that they haven't implemented CGN... yet.

Faster than what? Surely it's faster because you are closer to the cabinet and it looks like you are on the maximum sync speed. I am 450m away so sync rather lower.

You are way more discerning that I am usually!

Saying that I'm currently on a sub-2Mb ADSL line...

How heavy is your usage going to be? Asking as you may find a better SLA from AAISP and I know you rely on connectivity for your livelihood.

aaisp is actually been considered.

my usage varies although I am not in the light user category like sub 10 gig.

Although seems my low estimate is way off, here is my past data for 2013 on router.

What times of the day does your download take place. The number of GB per unit usage purchased varies depending on day, evening or night usage in the ratio of 2.5, 50 or 1000. Also light usage months can subsidise excess usage ones. So, if day time usage is light, aaisp might not be so expensive after all.

Looking at AAISP's prices, for my usage, which crept up to over 160GB last month, a lot of it during the day, AAISP would be many times the cost of Plusnet. Even if all the usage was evenings and weekends I'd still be paying double.

I think someone was using the internet whilst these were being carried out, as it should be a bit higher

It's in the location on the right of the one you tried. There's a bit of a difference

The difference is mainly on the upload, but they may have rolled that out now to all the servers.

No, I am saying if both people have the full sync then Sky will be faster because Plusnet uses PPPoE.
