Evening all,
It's been 6 hrs now since Mr bt installed his bits.
Unfortunately I don't have any stats for you guys as I'm not due to be activated until midnight tonight, or midnight tomorrow!
So I now have no broadband and no definitive time of when it will be activated?
I rang the helldesk and spoke to a very assured young man, who saw no problem with my install happening today and was very confident that my service would be activated by midnight tomorrow!
Nice, but at no point has anyone said you'll have no service for anything up to 36 hrs.
I then spoke to a nice lady in order updates (?) who advised that the technical boys and girls were wrong and my service would be activated by midnight tonight.
So that's alright then, the wife and I can both go and mug mucky D's for their free WiFi, can we bill Plusnet (or minus net as we should be calling it) for fuel, compulsory purchase of something and our time while they get their house in order and their information consistent across departments.
They also need to inform potential clients that things may not go according to plan, and that common sense appears to be in short supply in sunny Sheffield.
Come back o2, all is forgiven

It's just down to the ambiguity of the word "midnight". Every day has 2 midnights; 1 at the start and 1 and the end, as midnight is the transition from 1 day to the next. So it is possible for "midnight today" to be the same moment as "midnight tomorrow"
Generally when fibre is installed on a particular day, it will be activated at the latest by midnight coming the same day.
Really, to avoid confusion, ISPs should state that activation will take place by either 11:59PM the day of installation or 12:01AM the following day, as is used in all properly worded legal documents, and this is a legal contract.

What the? PM your username over and I'll try and log in from home and activate it for you. I'll also have some rather stern words for the agents you spoke to tomorrow.

Looks to have settled in eventually.
Note the button with the graphs is more useful if having speed problems, as the relative up and down nature of the two download tests can be informative

If you'd done as you were told then you'd still probably be without internet! So points to you.
It happened with me too. BT activated the line a day early and the fuss we had to get Plusnet to activate us at the same time was unreal.
Plusnet unlimited FTTC

Good on ya for sorting it.
Mine was activated an hour after BT engineer left, with 1 call to Plusnet, smooth transfer really.

May be its just me, doI smell?
No, don't answer that!!
Kids are happy, the current Mrs theboylard is happy and I must say the wireless on the supplied router is not bad?
Still going to install my Asus when it arrives

So time to change your sig .
Which ASUS is that? (You've probably said, but I'm feeling lazy).

Yep, will change it once I'm home!
Not said yet so no you're not betting lazy, Asus RT N65U.
I'm aware of the issues with the usb3 on this but as I'll use the ports for printer sharing duties, it doesn't really affect me that much.
Still think about the 66U, but not convinced enough for the extra wedge?

Not my field really. Just I recently bought a touch-screen HP Ultrabook, took it back after a month, and then a week ago bought an ASUS touchscreen laptop and am rather pleased with it compared to the HP.
So ASUS is an interest triggerer now.

I got to play with a number of different touch-screen laptops at The GadgetShow Live in Birmingham earlier this year. The ASUS and ACER models were by far and away the best in terms of sensitivity and responsiveness.
