I sometimes wonder if it is worth getting these emails?

I seem to spend quite a bit of time reading and deleting them; the person who sends/drafts them must have a full time job just doing that with lots of staff doing the actual maintenance!

and the rest of it says
Am I likely to notice the work?
You may do, yes. The faults troubleshooter will be unavailable for the majority of the maintenance window and holding pages will be in place.

It took me about five minutes this morning once I was informed the maintenance was going ahead... I've not had to do one since smile

EDIT: Also, apologies for the incorrect date too.

How can maintenance that is scheduled to take place in 3 years time be described as emergency?

Don't forget PN's servers take 10 days to process direct debit details so something complicated like maintenance must naturally take a few years. smile

One day when you stop being ignorant you might realise regardless of the company you go with Direct Debits naturally can take that amount of time to be set up. For some reason though you can't grasp this in any shape or form.

Does DD setup all happen electronically or is there some snail mail involved?

I expect the main holdup is at the banks. They have to validate it, as they are responsible for the effect on your account if an unauthorised charge is made on it.

Unlike standing orders, which are set up by the bank by your instructions to them.

Yes the DD guarantee and anti fraud measures will all add time to the banks processing of new authorisations. Banks don't want to pay out money when they don't have to.

Depends.

Original system - Customer fills in application form and posts back to company. Company posts application to the bank.

AUDDIS - Customer fills in application form and sends back to company. Company submits application electronically to the bank through BACS.

Paperless - Customer signs up on line or on phone. Company submits application electronically to the bank through BACS.

So, no snail mail for Plusnet, or most organisations these days I imagine. Can't remember when I last had to fill in and post a paper DD application.

The point of my OP was the specific text of the email subject tongue. The mistake is repeated in the body of the email.

Wouldn't it be an idea to warn customers of the long delay or even better keep the old DD in place until the new one is processed in that case?

When I spoke to my bank about my Plusnet DD they gave me a code that said it had all been dealt with by the 6th, but Plusnet still wanted more time. I still don't know why. frown
