Lately, plusnet has been getting slower everyday, tonight I am running at 0.75 Mb/s download and 0.95 Mb/s upload.
Before I signed up to this unlimited package I was averaging 15Mb/s. I suppose PlusNet unlimited is oversubscribed!

We've been adding loads of capacity to keep on top of demand.
Have you contacted our faults team at all?

Hi,
I am no expert on Broadband, but I have tried your fault finder page and got to the point where it asked me to try a different router. I do not have access to another router so I am stuck at the moment. Can I lend one from plusnet to test?
I currently have the DGN2000, its about 2 years old.

Hi,
I am on the "regular" broadband package not fibre, It was running at a good 15Mb for ages but two weeks ago it started slowing down. I like your speed.....

We've been adding loads of capacity to keep on top of demand.
So it's possible certain exchanges will experience slow-downs because there's too many customers ?
How can I find out if this is the case with my exchange ?
|
|
|
PlusNet do not have control over exchange capacity, and if an exchange has a problem it affects nearly all ISPs at it.
Somewhere to do with the OP's connection there is a fault, pure and simple messy.

Thank you kindly for your response everyone, I did try a few suggestions but nothing improved my speed last night. In fact it dropped to 0.3Mb
So this morning I did another speed test and got a whopping 18Mb

So does it suggest some sort of oversubscribing or congestion instead of a fault on the line or router?
Cheers

How can you have a 0 ping???
|
|
|
|
0 ping, don't know, so a problem exists then?
|
|
|
0 ping dows not mean a problem just ping below the resolution of the timer perhaps and likely to not be a real ping anyway

I doubt it's a problem, it's just that I've never seen it before! You could run pingtest.net or from a command prompt (Run As Administrator) type ping bbc.co.uk to test your ping

There could be, but it won't be the Plusnet core.
What exchange is it please, so we can see if there are any other reports about it? As a couple of us have said, if it is a BT Wholesale issue at your exchange there should be a fix date we can look for.
At your end, just to rule other possible causes out, do you use P2P? If so, round about the time this slowdown started a couple of weeks ago did you download anything that your computer could now be uploading on request from other P2Pers? It would be worthwhile running the Windows performance monitor or one of the easier monitors such as NetWorx or tbbMeter when things are bad, to see if there is anything odd on your connection.
Are you running wirelessly or wired to your router, and is the wireless protected on at least WPA2 with a complex password?

Hi all, thanks for your suggestions. Well I think it may be a hardware issue. I spent the day troubleshooting this problem and missed a round of golf at the local pitch and putt.
Soon after I posted the speed test this morning my speed fell again to 0.7Mb and then my connection stopped altogether. I am wired into the router by cable so I wanted to see if I can connect wirelessly. I went out to PC world and purchased a wireless dongle, with this dongle I can get between 10-15Mb consistantly, whereas by cable I get next to nothing.
I changed the cables, no joy. So either my network adapter (Realtek RTL8168-8111D ) which Is part of my motherboard, or the network ports on the router is faulty.
Can anyone see anything else that may be at fault?
Thanks again, and sorry for blaming PlusNet for the problem

Any chance of you putting in a PCI network card to see if it is a faulty ethernet port? What about trying with a wireless device and downloading a test file from Think Broadband main page, worth a shot.

Have you rebooted the router at any stage?
Did you try a different network port of the router?
If so and that didn't help, have you tried a Factory reset of the router?
