Plusnet Slow Speeds tonight

Hi folks,

I have 76Mb fibre which has always ran full speed since joining, until tonight. I'm currently trying to download a game from Steam, which is coming down around 500KB/Sec, I paused that tried downloading the new Nvidia driver and also get the same speed from that. I also notice browsing speed slows down when I download, so it seems to be only capable of handling 500 or less kilobytes a second. I have restarted both my router and VDSL model but nothing. Anyone got any similar issues?

Looking at their graphs looks like they are running at capacity?

Perhaps due to the IOS 7 upgrades?

As Barker says, in a way. Downloads have probably all been dropped from Gold to Silver. See the various links in his thread.

Browsing, VOIP, Gaming and live streaming will be targeted for capacity allocation while thousands download over 0.75MB of IOS 7.

Yes could be folks, Speedtest.net shown full speeds but other downloads not .

Would love to see something similar for other providers!

Not sure why but get the feeling that perhaps Sky/TalkTalk and BT might not be as badly affected.

TalkTalk I'd be fairly sure would be the worst of the lot, as traditionally they have the lowest "budgetted" capacity per user.

Sky basically only push their 40Mbps FTTC service. For a long time 80Mbps wasn't even on their website, and you still can't order it online. There is more than one way to skin a cat . Their 76Mbps FTTC is about £30pm. Over a year, that's a lot to pay to cater for Apple releases .

BT, I haven't checked their forums, nor either of the other two. Have you yet? You can't compare three companies by only asking about the one you are interested in.

The TalkTalk network is actually quite well catered for i believe, AAISP use it for example - cant see them using a network that is congested!

Agree about Sky though I think they and TalkTalk (who are actually more expensive for fibre than plusnet) are aware how much extra capacity you actually need.

What AAISP get as contracted capacity is quite different from what a TT end user gets as one of the weevils at the biscuit..

No different from all BT Wholesale based ISPs, where the problem isn't BT Wholesale itself, it is the handover capacity that the ISP chooses to rent from them. These days via MSILs, in the past via BT Centrals. AAISP are far better than most on that as well.

My gut feel is that BT and Sky may handle ridiculous peaks in total demand better than PlusNet, (and charge more), but I wouldn't be sure their gaming and VOIP stands up as well as PlusNet's in such circumstances. TalkTalk Retail I cannot believe can be any better than seventh or eighth in the pecking order. (In random order - BT/Sky/Plusnet/AAISP/Zen/IDNet. Maybe Entanet. Maybe Claranet).

I noticed my steam downloads slow then also. I just put it down to ios 7
