Process to move from ADSL to fibre?

Hi

My friend has adsl with Virgin and phone with BT, and wants to move both to PN, would she need a mac code for this ? if not would a cease charge be applied by virgin?

Does the fibre get activated first then the line moves over a few weeks later ?

A MAC code will be required.

It might be worth talking to Plusnet about the possibility of moving the ADSL and phone across first and then upgrading to fibre (should minimise risk of down time).

ADSL with one provider (SMPF) to FTTC with another is a standard MAC - so get the MAC from Virgin Media.

If past posts and memory are correct it is not uncommon for Plusnet to move the broadband first and then worry about the telephone line.

Don't recall any major level of moans from people attempting this sort of move, the fault risk seems to be about the same for a migration onto FTTC, as it is for ADSL to FTTC even when the provider is the same, i.e. the large risks are cabinet and engineer install associated generally. So not sure going to ADSL2+ with Plusnet first gains much if anything.

It should work but we've seen a fair few fails on the community forums (for example where the engineer fails to attend) and the old ISP terminates the service leaving the user with no broadband. If ADSL is moved first then no engineer is required and the switch to Plusnet is seamless. If the FTTC install fails the user will usually still have ADSL.

The worst part is that if it fails, with the state of Plusnet's support at present they find it impossible to get through on the phone to report the issue.
