Well it's coming to that time of year again. My line rental saver with BT is going to end soon and thought I would look at plusnet.
After reading this thread I am not impressed at all. http://community.plus.net/forum/index.php?PHPSESSID=...
It seems PN don't have a clue about their own products, confusing terms and conditions and not really competitive at all.
If you take PN line rental saver, you get no free weekends at all. BT offers it and you get caller ID free as well.
BT may cost 75p more but you get free weekend calls, caller ID, which cost £1 with plusnet. Why can't PN do something like that? I would have to pay £1.50 eve and weekends, which still cost more that BT.
I'm not even sure I would get a good deal on broadband and phone with a 12 month contact.
PN really need to sort themselves out and start offering decent competitive products.

What a surprise, nobody got anything to say then? Not even the Plusnet fanboys
Although I may not be taking Plusnet line rental because of above, what is PN service like if your phone goes wrong? Do they fix any problems fast or fob you off it's a BT issue when it's not?
At the moment, it still works out cheaper me paying PN for Fibre and BT or another for line rental.

I wasn't going to read a 4-page thead that you linked to just to find out what your point was .
I have kept my line rental with BT, as I also have free E & W included on a legacy package. However as Caller Display and 1571 are now both charged unless you go for a 12-month term and the likes of Zen and Primus for phone are far cheaper than either BT or Plusnet, maybe you should look into those.
Edit - and when asking things, the use of the word "fanboy" is likely to turn off the ones with the best advice to offer.

As Bob intimated, that's just going to wind people up.

On the one occasion I had a phone fault, PN logged it with Openreach and Openreach fixed it, no fuss, no buck-passing. Given that 99% of phone faults are probably down to BT (Openreach) it's not an issue really, you are much more likely to hit that sort of problem with a broadband fault.

Come back billford, we need a laugh.
On a serious note, remember that big thread of mine that got locked? That was due to the PN fanboys Im afraid.

Well I have read it all. You do need to read to understand what a mess PN got themselfs into.

That is what it's looking like I will be doing, for the reasons I said in OP. I will be going for Line Rental Saver like I have always done. So Caller desplay will be free anyway but not with PN. I know BT changed it but if I renew, it will be free. It was free for me before.

Thanks, just wanted to see if anyone had any issues with the service and how it was dealt with. While BT Customer services is rubbish, they have sorted any problems out without issue in past but have not needed to for some time.
I had a bad experience with another provider many years ago and had more faults or service issue than BT. Took there time to deal with it.

BT have never said you could and I've always read it as a limited offer for 1 year only to existing BTP+CD custs. And my Calling Features say: * BT Privacy with Caller Display free for 12 months ................................. £0.00
The option to register for the Telephone Preference Service (TPS) to help prevent unwanted sales calls
See who's calling with Caller Display
FREE for 12 months, £1.75 a month from month 13
A new 12 month line rental contract applies Of course nobody knows what they'll do next year.

Interestingly, they may have already decided as they are offering it to new custs: BT Privacy with Caller Display free for 12 months online with a new 12 month line rental contract (usually £1.75 a month). Standard price version available by calling us on 0800 800 150. BT Privacy with Caller Display will remain free for BT Basic customers. OF course the could still mean just for the 1st year.

I think many people will be like me and pretty much every friend and family member I have now - noone makes calls on landlines any more and uses mobiles.
Do you honestly need weekend calls on a landline? Do you not have enough minutes on your mobile?

Well without reading the thread, you wouldn't know that would you.
That could also mean PN replies are junk as well then.

Yes, I know that. Ray I called BT today and they said, it is for one year as they may remove the offer in future. Well that is fair enough.
I was told that it's a separate order and you have to add the caller ID after purchasing LRS. If you don't add the option but decide to add say weeks later, you may not be able to if BT withdraws it. Again, fair enough.
I asked BT if they would match PN line rental saver but BT said, they don't price match. Tried to get me to have broadband from them but at £26, it's cheaper to stay with Plusnet.
Btw BT now have a call center in Yorkshire and are bringing most of the call centres back to UK, so I'm told. They don't share same call centres with PN though.

I don't use mobiles that much as it's expensive. I make calls on some weekends, so yes, it is something I use.
I use an override provider for all my other calls. 5p for as long as you like. Mobile won't be that cheap.
Until you can have broadband without line rental, I will still use a landline.

The links in my Profile don't point to a site that requires a login either . Your's has http://postimg.org/my.php?gallery=9fdw07u6 preceded by a scary bit of text, "Here is all my BT speedtests, I have done in past."
I think my opinion on the nonsense of reading 4 pages of a thread elsewhere to find what if anything is relevant to one of your posts here stands a chance of being valid .

Yes, so whats your point about registration dates? Nothing to do with anything on here. I have corrected the link roberto, if you would like to check again. It was a mistake you know.
The thread shows many customers not being happy that plusnet have no ideas about their own products and conflicting information on line rental. Even oldjim had to pull up some of the staff and knows more then some of them.
PN need to bring back bobpullen from business, as he was much better.

Shown by not expecting people to read four pages of stuff for no good reason.
Shown by only spouting drivel occasionally, and then it's by accident.
Shown by not posting two historic speed tests in my sig, of no interest to anyone and a total PITA to everyone in terms of screen usage.

Now if you mix and match services from different providers, what has been found to be the best combination giving you Caller Display, free 01/02/03 calls 24/7 and unlimited fibre with 80/20 plus Line Rental all included? Don't confuse us all by Introductory offers, it's what you will pay after they have evaporated.

The service I have right now is the best for me but it would of been nice to get the same on plus net and move my line rental over to them.
The BT LRS and paying PN for fibre is the best combination in my view and it's not some introductory offer either. But your requirements may be different and will need to search for whats best for you.

I'd look at Zen home phone..
Correction, I did look at Zen home phone and I liked it - no LRS option but great basic line rental price, very fair calls pricing and very reasonable inclusive calls option.

Thanks but i did check zen yesterday. Call charges do work out more than what I pay now and like you say, no LRS. Even without LRS, it would cost me more than BT. Caller display is 90p on top.
I also looked at fibre and phone but still cost more than I pay now and line rental cost even more if you have broadband with zen. Not value for money in my view.
Only other one is Post office at £120 LRS but the issue is, I may end up on talk talk network and PO can't tell me. Posted over in Post office forum about it

Looks like I will be staying with BT after all this. As they say, better the devil you know.
Just for comparison BT LRS is £141 = £11.75 a month
Plusnet Line Rental Saver is £131.88 = £10.99 a month.
Remember, you get absolutely nothing included with PN LRS. No free weekend calls or caller ID. You can only have evening and weekend as the cheapest package with PN LRS. That cost £1.50.
Swings and roundabouts.
