Hi
Migrated from BT Unlimited Fibre to Plusnet business unlimited fibre.
No issues and everything is working well.
Just curious why when it's the same line and same hardware ( modem and router ) are my speeds around 4 - 5Mb slower.
Speed tests on BT were always 74.5/18
On PlusNet 68/17
The one I've just done now is :
65.73 Mbps 65.05 Mbps 18.11 Mbps
Any way I can get this back ?
Thanks

Firstly, check your IP profile - BTwholesale speed tester. Follow the Further Diagnostics option.
Secondly, check your Plusnet Current Line Speed. It should match the IP profile to within 0.1

From September 2001 on BTopenworld Home 500/Home 1000/Home 2000. Then ADSLMax on <n>ildram. Moved to ADSL2+ from ADSL24. I'm now with plusnet. I'm not saying who I work for. Any opinions expressed here are my own.

Thanks for the reply
The BT speed tester always fails when I click for further diagnostics.
Its been doing that for the last few months.
I'll try again in the morning and see what happens
Thanks

U will get less speed with PN rather than with BT. If u getting 74/18 with BT then u more likely to get less with PN.
But my speed is fine with PN getting 74/19 http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/3503296231 the upload is slower because I watching streaming uploading

Was your phone number originally issued by Sky or TalkTalk? I'm wondering if numbers that started off as LLU, as opposed to ones that went LLU from WLR and returned to it, don't get recognised by the Further Diagnostics.

On BT I was getting a similar speed to you.. how do I do that now with PlusNet ?
As I've said it's not a problem, but it would be nice to get the most I can, which on BT was faster.

Have you checked your Plusnet Current Line Speed, as suggested by Jaggies?

Sorry missed that.
PlusNet shows :
Current line speed:
74.6 Mb

That's what it should be for that IP Profile, so that isn't the issue. A pity in a way, as that's easy to fix.

I don't know, as we don't have the IP Profile from BT days. Unless you have it posted somewhere?
In normal circumstances you cannot get a speed test result greater than the IP Profile, and in Plusnet's case the Current line speed. The difference between the two being negligible. I'd expect a couple of Mbps below that, so maybe you are a little low, but to get 74.5Mbps on Infinity I would have thought you would have a higher IP Profile.
The IP Profile is of course determined by the connection speed, which the ISP has no direct control over. It's Openreach DLM that decides that.

AIUI BT Retail don't have MSILs. I could be wrong, but I have a feeling that step is missing. As it is with white label BTW ISPs.

I haven't seen it mentioned so thought I would ask,
What Modem are you using for your plusnet connection?
HG612 or ECI or Other?
MLM
Virgin Media 50/3 > SH2 Modem Mode > Airport Extreme 5th Gen
Cabinet 54 @ 320m (CMKING) Under Evaluation (Awaiting FTTC)

HG612, unlocked.

So I assume there is no way to get this any faster !
As before when BT Exchange put my ip profile on 77.42Mb and Plusnet ip profile on 77.4Mb and I only getting 72.57Mb throughput speed. Some gateway put me on 72Meg throughput and change to different gateway and I getting 74Meg.
Maybe u could try different gateway.
The fastest gateway is ptn-bng01

I am currently connected to gateway pcl-bng01
Do you have to reboot the ECI or Router to change gateways ?

Hi mrpete,
Just letting you know I've run some diagnostics which don't show any obvious problems with your service. Just wanted to make sure there weren't any faults that might be affecting your speeds at the moment.
|
|
|
Thanks Adam
I've not disconnected and reconnected as yet. Like I said it's not a major issue, but it would be nice to squeeze every bit I can from the connection
