Traffic Shaping on Fibre

[link to this post]

Im thinking of joining Plusnet currently with BT.
When downloading from usenet i get full speeds at all times.
But ive read some Plusnet users are traffic shaped when downloading from usenet.
Is this the case or do you get full speed at all times ?

On Essential Fibre it can be limited to 2Mbps in the evenings. On Unlimited fibre it is not restricted.

See also this blog article.

It does seem to be the case that the traffic management system does reduce the maximum speed test speed on an 80Mbps sync, by 2-3 Mbps. There is an official explanation for this, suggesting it is a false speed test result, but I've not got round to fully understanding it so can't pass judgement.

Users on legacy products will be managed as per the product they are on.

My broadband basic info/help site - www.robertos.me.uk | Domains,site and mail hosting - Tsohost.
Connection - Plusnet UnLim Fibre (FTTC). Sync ~ 58.7/14.6Mbps @ 600m. - BQM

Cheers as long as the d/load speed remains the same for usenet, only other activity is browsing and email no streaming so speeds should be the same.

Would the pro addon change that?

If you're talking about the 2-3Mbps reduction, I don't believe so, but it's an interesting question.

Yes, I realise that and I know it doesn't affect the sync speed (nothing the ISP does can), I was thinking of the specific effect whereby maximum attainable speed on Plusnet appears to be slightly lower than other ISPs; it has been discussed here and in the Community Forums at some length, and various tests done, but I don't know the outcome.

There wasn't really one
It just seems that going through the Plusnet system drops it down a bit from their mirror of the IP profile
There was a lot of technical information from Dave but, although most of it went over my head, I don't think that there was a clear statement of why it was happening
