Decent router with Wifi?

Hi all,

moving to PN soon and have a Billion 7800N router, will this still do the job on Fibre extra? I do have the PN router coming but was thinking of getting a ASUS RT-N66U instead if its any better? I have different wireless devices around the house so need decent Wifi connection.

I haven't bothered with the plusnet router, the interface is quite annoying and makes doing anything vaguely 'advanced' quite difficult. I ended up getting a cheap Belkin N750DB on ebay and stuck some custom software on it, I think the software is based on the Asus N56U.

The RT-N66U seems to be one of the best routers out there at the moment. I would recommend a router that you can flash 3rd party firmware onto, something like openwrt or ddwrt, it all depends on what features you want in the router.

EDIT: Forgot to add you will need one with PPPoE.

Using rt-n66u with tomato firmware on openreach fttc connection

The amount of stuff you can do with the router is almost never ending

I'm using the TP-Link WDR3600. It has dual band, simultaneous 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz WiFi.

It can be flashed with DD-WRT, but I can't find anything on the normal router GUI that I can't do, other than true QoS (but I don't need that).

Getting great speeds with it, and it's been really good so far, and I've used TP-Link stuff for the past few years with no problems. It's also a bit cheaper than the others, coming in at £47.

Billion's web site says the 7800N works fine with Fibre.

i'm using the 7800N with the OR modem - works fine.

I believe in tests the 7800N's EWAN port maxed out at around 100Mb/s. So on an up to 80Mb/s connection, it'll not provide any restriction.
I'll be using mine, with an OR modem, when I get a chance to go the FTTC route.
