Reverse DNS records changed

Alert: If you are on a static IP and you had requested that Plusnet change the reverse DNS from the standard username.plus.com to something else it is highly likely it has reverted.

Hmmm.

My currently unused IP address is of that form. I certainly had it changed but have no idea what to, as the relevant ticket has been deleted.

My IPv6 trial (IPv4) one isn't of the normal form anyway and the IPv6 one the Plusnet checking tool doesn't recognise. With either 4 groups or 8.

For the ignorant, i.e. me can you explain the differences please?

As far as I know, if you are on a dynamic ISP you get the default just described, and there is nothing you can do about it.

Try this tool as well to check your Reverse DNS without going through Plusnet.

Well the standard setting is that any website you visit, of any level of propriety or dubiousness, can easily find your Plusnet username. Cracking your password isn't likely to be much problem to anyone who does that.

For dynamic I'm pretty sure the default is the IPaddress.plus.com format

Thanks for the explanation. Form submitted. I'm very surprised that a username is used. PN should use the IP address regardless of static or dynamic.

I agree, (note that jelv reckons I'm wrong about the dynamic one and I'd lay high odds he is right). I think the IP address is what I changed mine to, and as he says - it has reverted.

I must remember to get it fixed but can't be bothered just now. As I said, on the IPv6 trail it isn't used anyway. Though ... I suppose if any site from over a year ago wanted to play ....

Maybe I'll submit a form late tomorrow, as tomorrow starts in six minutes and I'm not doing it right now.
