A friend of mine is on an old Metronet account and has had a phone call from Plusnet saying they are closing the Metronet account and offering to transfer to Plusnet (this is on a ADSLMax only exchange). Does anyone know if they would qualify for any good deals and if Plusnet would insist on a 12 or 18 month contract.

Their best bet would be to ring and speak to Plusnet and find out.

If he just moves to PN at the 'normal' prices it will likely be non-contract.
If however, he takes up an "offer" with reduced prices it will be on a contract, probably 18 Months.

Tell your friend when phoning PN to ask to speak to the Customer Options Team as they are able to "offer" possible discounts/deals.

While this is true, it WILL be on a contract, to not have a contract they would have to just 'brand migrate' on a normal non-contract basis and forego any possible discounts.

Exactly the same for me. Plusnet has changed the most in the years in between.
I left Metronet and moved to Bulldog which was the first big full LLU by C&W and it was good (8meg when BT did 2meg) but often a mess from customer support.

There was Samara who used to help folk who posted on the Madasafish forum some years ago:-

She was very helpfull in her own way and knew who to ask in Madasafish/Brightview regarding very technical questions and would soon come back with a reply.

Yep, I recall him, and would have remembered that name as it's one I share. There was deffo another guy.

Your name is Metronet

Yes, unusual I know, had thought of changing it by deed poll, but in the end married a Vivaciti, and decided to name the kids, Sky, Zen and Merula.

Are you thinking of Alex?
James was polite. Alex (surname unknown) was, well, direct.
Some of the customer-facing parts of their support website (e.g. their brutally direct descriptions of various vendors DSL products) would have been a lawyer's nightmare if Metronet had been big enough to have a legal department.
After the change of ownership he left Metronet and left the world of ISPs (not that Metronet were ever in the same world as most ISPs anyway).
Happy days.

James has escaped from the world of Internet Service Providers and is doing something completely different now

MetroNet was the first ADSL ISP I ever used.
I was quite saddened when PN bought it up.
Times must change I guess.
