IP Profile

[link to this post]

Why would my IP profile as shown on the BTW Speed test and PN's Member Centre page, change. On installation IP profile was 75mbps which over time dropped to 70 mbps. Then to 67.85 and then a few weeks later back to 70 then a few weeks later back to 67.85.

Speed tests on the various profiles were within 2mbps of the profile, which suggests to me that the line is capable of syncing at the full 75mbps. Prior to the fall the line was stable there were no disconnections, as confirmed by my BQM.

Is it worth asking PN to reset the IP profile to 75mbps?

Nope because they can't unless a fault is raised and accepted by Openreach
Have you fallen foul of the dreaded G.INP problem

No, because they can't. An Openreach engineer can request a DLM reset if a fault is reported and accepted, that's about it. Your variation seems entirely within normal limits to me and unlikely to have any practical impact.

I thought it unusual that it dropped then went higher, then dropped again. Not to worry.

Looks like I will need to invest in a HG612, to replace my BT ECI modem.

Sync has just gone up to 70.61 on the BT Wholesale speed test after a modem reboot.

It doesn't give your sync on a BT wholesale speed test. Unless they've changed it in the last few days.

My broadband basic info/help site - www.robertos.me.uk. Domains, site and mail hosting - Tsohost.
Connection - Plusnet UnLim Fibre (FTTC). Sync 58162/14182kbps @ 600m. - IPv4BQM IPv6BQM

I would recomend getting an HG612 if your cabinet is huwai. Mine is and openreach supplied an ECI modem. I obtained a 612 from ebay and hacked it to the latest (08) firmware. my speed jumped from 39 to 48 mb

The IP Profile has actually gone to 77.4 after a couple of power cuts. This is mirrored in my member centre. However speeds are around 65.

How can I identify if my cab is ECI or Huawei.

Could be the Plusnet profile hasn't caught up yet. 77.4 is the maximum possible.

Thanks Jim. It's definitely a Huawei cabinet. Just a thought, the cabinet is very close to me. Is it possible that a power cut could have triggered some sort of reset, which allowed my IP Profile to reset?

Fixed that for you tongue.

Now there's a thought .... Must check whether the removal of upstream G.INP affects it. Probably not, but bi-directional did. I expect it still does.

Can't be fussed right now - time to go for the paper and then have breakfast. Fresh kipper today!

78 is the maximum that Plusnet can put ip profile on 80/20 FTTC.

The 77.4 is showing in my members centre. It's the throughput that's lagging behind.

Mine is showing 78 Mb for many months in my members centre as plusnet support told me that the correct profile for a maximum 80/20 on FTTC.

They set that as the default for FTTC on account setup and it's only sync speed changes that alter it. The highest the system can set is 77.4.

Yours could have stayed at 78 or been set back manually to it for some reason. Until you sync at a speed to get a lower IP Profile then the system won't change it.

I was talking about the IP profile, not the Plusnet profile. My Plusnet profile was set to 99Mbps for a while during a trial.
