Using own router with plusnet

Hi all,

Had my fibre installed today, all up and running.

I bought myself a new decent router a NETGEAR DGND4000 which has a built in modem.

Currently I am connected to it like this:

Master socket >>> Openreach Modem >>> NETGEAR >>> My PC

When I connect the phoneline directly to the router I don't get anything, the light just constantly flashes, am I missing an important step?

Setup I want to have is:

Master Socket >>> NETGEAR >>> my pc

Any help would be greatfully appreciated

As far as I can see that has an ADSL modem, not VDSL, so it will never work with FTTC.

Decent modem for ADSL2+ but not for FTTC connections plugged into the phone socket.

Try to see if you can have it returned as "not working" and get one compatible with VDSL......

As the others have said it doesn't have an inbuilt modem suitable for VDSL so won't work with your fibre connection on it's own.

Yes it does support fibre. The ethernet cable must plugged between openreach modem lan 1 and Netgear gigabit ethernet connects to cable or fibre modem on the grey ethernet lan port (not yellow) but the Netgear doesn't have it own VDSL2 modem but will work with FTTC with openreach modem connected from Lan 1 to Grey Ethernet Lan port on the router.

P.S. my friend have NETGEAR DGND4000 and it work on FTTC with Openreach Modem connected with this router.

I recently switched from the PN supplied kit to a TP-LINK TD-W9980. Just over £60. Seems to work well enough and tidies up the mess in my hall cupboard.

I actually had a 3 box soultion before the TP-LINK. Fibre modem, 2704 router and old (585v7?) PN router. The wifi on the current router that PN supply was so poor that, with some help from experts here at TBB, I configured my old PN ADSL router downstream of the new router to do wifi.

Apprentice knows it supports it with the openreach modem which is clear from the post.

The way you suggest is how the OP already has it. The question was why it didn't work without the modem. And the other answers have said why.

This is correct that the Netgear dgnd4000 will NOT work without openreach modem.

There is plenty out there that have VDSL2 Modem in built with router (all in one) depend on the person budget to spend on it.
