Plusnet retentions - what's on the menu?

[link to this post]

Can they come close to matching the SSE Broadband offers for fibre?

SSE have up to 38Mb for £10 (half price for 2 years) plus £12 line rental, and up to 76Mb for £12.50 plus £12 line rental. The minimum contract is 18 months.

www.southern-electric.co.uk/broadband/
(Southern Electric is an SSE brand)

There are also some substantial cashback offers via TopCashback on top of this.

An order for the SSE service has already been placed... but they don't appear to act on it for at least 14 days.

I very much doubt it. they already give way too much away imo

No wonder the lights go out a lot of the time..

Yes PN will match that! But you have to metion them SSE to match it.

They will not reduced line rental but can reduced unlimited fibre extra from £19.99 to £7.49 pm for 2 years fixed on a 2 years contract.

Thank you adslmax.

I could even email a scan of a welcome letter to SSE. Not possible to do during a phone call of course (though perhaps it's about time it was!).

I guess the cashback offers aren't something they could match, that'd be asking too much.

SSE Broadband isn't getting a great write up, but lots of it seems down to migration troubles from LLU providers, and there don't appear to be issues with migration from non-LLU providers.

I renewed about 3 weeks ago for non fibre and was told categorically that they would not match SSE. I was told that they had been instructed not to. However a friend who renewed the same package on the same day got a price match and this was quoted as a price match on his offer. I think that I was misinformed!!! Having said that my offer after a second phone call was very close to SSE.

It's depend on the person u spoken to. If no deal is matched SSE end the call, put the phone down and try different person and you will get the deal better. Always try to get a good deal because some staff refused to match, some staff will. Yes you are being misinformed!

It might be about the retention staff member's individual targets and allowances - if they've reached their own allowance/budget, then they won't make an offer (at least not a super generous one). I don't know how Plusnet organises these things, but that's how it can work with other companies..

I see nothing wrong in trying to get the best deal that you can. It is surprising how many times when renewal of insurance, breakdown cover etc comes around the companies quote a high figure but drop it when you ring them. Most ISPs are open to negotiation. Some people don't want to and will pay full price which is fine and their prerogative. If you are on a limited income then you do search for the best deals. If things go wrong as they will then you to try to rectify the problem or change supplier. A slack ~~~~~ consumer ethos can leave you sat in something unpleasant.

I was offered the option of a price match with SSE for the fibre broadband.

Also offered an alternative of £15 a month plus £50 cashback.

That's interesting I'll need to see what offers are available for plain old ADSL1 in the next few days.

And why anyone would want to be tied in to a ridiculously long min term contract of 2YEARS !!! baffles me,

I believe you get what you pay for and when you pay nothing you get nothing. And if you don't pay for it then you have NO right to complain about it!

That's just me - and I pay through the nose for my connectivity.

I was a bit trapped as still had 3 months of line rental saver to run which would have been lost if I moved. However the offer I received for ADSL with anytime calls for 18 month contract was only slightly higher than SSE with anytime calls but worked out about £2 cheaper when caller display was added as SSE charge £3-25p compared to 99p at Plusnet. I'm not keen on an 18 month contract but most ISPs raise the price every year so there is usually a way out if needed.

Thanks for this cashback is very good and this offer end on 16th

I rang Plusnet customer service you have to ring them cant do it online tried that last night

They have in place this offer. I get the 76Mb fibre

They offered me for 2 years £7.50 a month and line rental is £16.99 which starts in Jan for me as my line rental saver ends then.

Works out almost same offer as SSE

SSE 24x12.50 = £300 24x£12=288 = 588 ===== broadband
Plusnet 24x7.51 = £180 24x£16.99=407 = £587 ======= line rental

I obviously wont gain the cashback with SSE but I been happy with plusnet

They told me they cant lower line rental so hence why the lowered broadband for me

I got told bt plusnet to ring

Customer Options team directly on 0800 013 2632 or 0330 123 9197

15 mins wait time as of 10.40am today
