Is the router set to block WAN icmp ping requests? if so that's why, but if you play online games and prefare to host a game or server then some will not join as no ping available so they don't know how high or low it is
|
|
|
|
pings have been blocked for months
games are played off line

That's interesting. My static Plusnet IP is listed.

That's interesting. My static Plusnet IP is listed. Run Malwarebytes .

Oppps on closer inspection of the list I misread a set of numbers.

I doubt that updating the firmware is related. What is more likely is that your IP address changed on the 29th, either in the early hours due to network maintenance, or you disconnected and reconnected / rebooted at some point and the IP address that you now have was previously used by a Gamer.
If it's bothering you and/or continuing for too many more days, then log into the Router and click Disconnect, wait about 30 seconds and then click Connect. That should give you a new IP address (and probably a different Gateway).

no change in isp address on 29th
did a reboot yesterday gateway changed and new isp address
made no difference

And you are still getting a similar number of ICMP Echo requests, you'll always get some? That would be surprising.
(I presume you mean IP address eg. 87.115.xxx.xxx sort of thing, not isp address btw).
You aren't accidentally displaying your IP address in public anywhere by any chance?

so far today had 169 of them all different ip addresses.
ip addresses.
don't think it displayed it displayed any where.
any way of finding out?
|
|
|
That is a rather high number.
Have you posted about your problem (or any issues you may have) anywhere else? Maybe quoting the current IP address?
Off the top of my head I can't think of any good reason why you should be getting so many, other than just bad luck. I would do another hop and see if you get less of them.
As has been mentioned everyone gets some.

today to about the same time 180
not posted elsewhere
I'll try another reboot tomorrow morn and if that doesn't work i'll post on plusnet site

|

Just to be clear - YOUR IP address is changing when you reboot or the PPP session is dropped/reconnected?
You aren't on a Fixed IP address for some reason?
Check your IP Address to see if it changes (but don't post the address) !

Are you noticing and degradation in BB service levels, or is your pc not working as it usually does? if not then IMO i wouldn't be worrying too much about it, I get loads of entries in my routers logs this scan that scan hack this hack that, yet nothing is untoward, on either box on my network, router firmware can report false positives just like your security suite or AV solution,
Have you looked up these IP addresses that are reportedly attempting to connect to your public ip address? my DNS servers are detected as a back orfice scan because they reportedly attempt to connect on a different port , but if also see loads of ICMP , and have for many years , so far i haven' been hacked , my money is still in my accounts no unknown transactions , But yes i get lots of unsolicited calls , as do almost everyone, because of random number generators these cold calling/scammers parasites use

well did a reboot this morn about 11am kept it off for 20 mins IP address changed and so far not had any more service blocked
hope it stays that way

Let's hope it does stay that way - well very low at any rate. Although as tommy45 says, if it's not affecting your performance don't worry about it, that's true to a point, it should not be dismissed without doing checks (as you have) that you aren't inadvertently sharing your IP address somewhere. In my book, the number you were getting was on the high side. They can come in bursts, where some little **** is "experimenting" they usually stop after a while. Otherwise, maybe you've just been unlucky.
