Now that is one to look at when Plusnet put their prices up and I can get out of my present contract - at the very least it will make for a really good price reduction argument

I haven't found exactly what Max is quoting, Jim, but the Plusnet website is somewhat more complex. There appears to be a time-limited offer period applicable.

I doubt if there is anything on the Plusnet website as this is only valid if you call and ask for a price match with SSE

Yep, Oldjim is correct, if you call up PN and ask them to match SSE price and that's what I did last time. But, this one is even better one, free broadband (up to 76Meg) for 18 months is true bargain. Don't forget u can removed unlimited calls plan if u don't want it because it monthly by monthly for any call plan with PN. Save u another £6 off.

Bargain maybe if it works, not so much if they can not even sort their pings out. Got a few more months before contract is out and I think then I may do some looking around, not that any of them are much better because they use the naff BT network.

That's the way I see things, I recently rejoined and if Plusnet increase charges around the same time as their parent BT I will have already received my cashback/discount and will attempt to renegotiate to SSE levels - or maybe leave.

I've just rang sales and asked if they price match and they said they don't, so unless someone has done this recently as a new customer it's a none starter.

I've asked via email instead to see if that works. I'm also trying to find out more about SSE broadband as their deal is rather good.

Apparently they use Daisy Group but I have no idea about how good they are but they do have a traffic management policy which potentially could be nasty
Traffic types are identified in real-time based on a combination of port, source IP address and DPI signature detection.
This allows our network operator at any given time to manage the network capacity and prioritise time sensitive traffic by reducing the throughput of the other less time sensitive protocols.

https://daisygroup.com/product/unlimited-superfast-f...

FTTC policy including: FTTC services are not expected to
transfer more than 100 Gigabytes of data during the course of
a month. So, it clearly that SSE are misleading with UNLIMITED but there is a catch of no more than 100 Gigabytes of data in a month.

Maybe it is unlimited usage from SSE and if any of their FTTC customers use more than 100Gigabytes of data a month then SSE pick up the tab from Daisy for the cost of the extra usage? tongue laugh

Nowhere as good as it looks. very high call charges, long contract and poor customer services. All which makes their 'free' broadband no cheaper than EE ... another to avoid!

Plusnet do it at an individual level unless there are severe network problems
It appears that Daisy do it globally so non priority traffic on a user can be restricted to give a higher priority to another user's time sensitive usage

Thanks, i've been looking and ruled them out based on the 100GB limit mentioned above.

BT are offering retention deals as part of their price rise (which makes you wonder why they put the prices up!) so i'll probably sign a new 12 month contract there.

You can ask PN to match SSE and don't have to worry about usage allowance as Plusnet are UNLIMITED usage data.
