John Lewis BB Contract ending - but getting a new deal

[link to this post]

My contract with John Lewis BB expires in a couple of weeks. I contacted them to see what the out of contract cost would be and they told me it would be the same as what I'm paying now.

However, they also said that at this point I would be eligible to any new deals they had simply by logging into my account and going to Change Product.

Has anybody been able to get the latest price deal from them this way, after your contract has expired?

Thanks

I did consider JL BB as they are cheaper than Plusnet at the Plusnet high price exchanges. As it is I have decided to use Vodafone FTTC, which at £25 pm is a little cheaper than the standard JL ADSL BB. I would be interested to hear how you get on trying to get lower price from JL.

Where I live there are limited choices of ISP, so I typically rotate through BT, Plusnet and JL. This year there doesn't seem to be any big savings amongst them as I've found in previous years so I suspect if I can get JL's latest deal I'll stay with them, although it only saves a few pounds.

I have to wait another week until my contract ends and then I'll try to change JL to their latest offering and I'll let you know what happens.

A result.....

Couldn't actually change my package price through the on-line account but called Customer Service and they did it for me. So I now have the price offered to new customers, which is £4 per month cheaper.

Every bit helps.

That is interesting thank you. As, unlike Plusnet, they don't charge more at exchanges with no LLU operators they are certainly worth considering in that situation.

Is that for the Unlimited + Evening & Weekend calls package?

Yes. This is for ADSL as that's all I have access to.

When I switched to JL just over a year ago. The package was 6mths free broadband so I just paid 15.50 for the line plus I opted for a Talk Anytime UK +Worldwide package at 7.00

Total cost £22.50 for 6mths.

After 6mths the broadband was charged at 11.00 per month

Total cost for remainder of contract 33.50

Now my Broadband + Phone (evenings and weekends free) is 22.50 and my call package is still 7.00

Total cost after renewal 29.50.

This was marginally cheaper than Plusnet direct but considerably cheaper than BT.

My PN contract is about to end and as my distant market A exchange is 20CN I can only get ADSL, I will see what deals are available from the COT but have a feeling that there are no deals anymore compared to those from a few years back.

Would you recommend John Lewis BB as provided by Plusnet?

Well I guess it can't be any worse than PlusNet and I believe they don't charge extra for being on a Market A exchange so if you can get a good price it could be a winner.

In just that situation I moved to Vodafone 38Mbps FTTC. Cheaper than Plusnet ADSL renewal. John Lewis ADSL was my next choice

Yes, I would recommend either of them but JL was a slightly better deal.

I'm a bit of a serial switcher in order to get the best price and service and I've been with Plusnet in the past and now with JL for the second year running - the longest I've stayed with anyone.

I've had no real problems to speak of. The only issue with JL was that they forgot to activate the BB when I first took out the contract, but a quick phone call to CS and they did it straight away.

Spoke to one of the COT a short while ago and the first offer for BB was £3 more than I pay just now plus LRS or monthly LR payment.
Didn't go for that so the best and final offer was ADSL1 BB for £10 a month plus LRS or monthly LR payment. PN LRS is £197.88 (= £16.49 a month) and monthly LR is £18.99.

I thanked him and said I would consider it while looking at other options, having looked at John Lewis the PN provided BB and LR is available just now for £20.00 a month, the package also includes an evening and weekend call plan, contract term is 12 months.
