Internet connection slowed down in the past few weeks

In the past few years I have been getting download speeds of between 15+ to 17+Mps in the last few days the download speeds have decreased to 11+Mbps. The upload speeds have remained more or les @0.7Mbps to 0.4Mbps. Latency have been in the 30s.

1. My question is what has changed to decrease my download speeds?
2. If so is it an issue that needs to be raised with PlusNet?

What impact is it having on your day to day internet experience?

Is it just speed test your seeing and using that as there is a problem?

Could it be that seasonal favourite, a little REIN from Christmas lights ?

That�s a fair few errors in two days.

Yes the main impact was on download speed in that I started getting buffering when watching iPlayer and occasional slow loading web pages.

I left the pc with RouterStats running all night and by 12:20 today the SN Margin has reverted to RX 6.0db and TX 14.7db which is more or less what has been for 12 years or more since I was with O2 and the PlusNet PLC.
The download speed has reverted to the 14+ to 17Mbps (hopefully)
In OOKLA it now shows BT as my provider and with a new IP address!

The last time I had a similar problem like this was when I was with O2 and the OR engineer eventually found the fault to be at the exchange.

I will monitor the issue and see if it returns in the short term.

The internet cut off at about 20:30 so I decided to phone PlusNet support which were very quick to answer about 1 minute and CS could see that there seemed to be a problem and did line tests but no errors were found. Told me to turn the router off for an hour and then switch it on again and see if the issue returns and he will check again tomorrow and then take it from there!

That's quite a short connection time - looks like you had a disconnection. Your Current Line speed will be throttling you, but if it still works the way it's supposed to it should increase when Plusnet get a report of your actual line speed from Openreach.

After lots of disconnections during all night it connected @ 13:00 today and disconnected again @ 20:30 today. I now have the router turned off until 22:30 when I shall try and connect again!
Writing this on another pc using a neighbour's Wi-Fi.

CS have reset the SN Margin and I am now on the 10 day trial period. It will be interesting what the SN Margin will be after the trial ends as it is jumping like a jojo with frequent disconnections and thousands or errors!

It's perhaps irrelevant but anyway....

A couple of years ago my netgear router got hacked and I was unable to stop 'strangers' appearing on my network. I put my Plusnet HomeHub back and solved that problem *but* it kept disconnecting sometimes several times an hour. I then dug out my original HG612 modem and connected it to the HomeHub.

It'not 100% but I now lose my connection once every 2-3 weeks, good enough for me.

The disconnects are now always shown in the router log as:-
PPP LCP Send Termination Request [Peer not responding]
Google turns up results back to 2015 to show this is a long standing problem with the BT hub not only for PlusNet customers.

Two distinct problems then, the inbuilt modem is incompatible with something on my line and that's resolved. There's still a minor problem somewhere that I live with.
