ISP will disconnect my broadband scam

Had a call this morning @ around 8am with an automated caller alleging that there has been illegal activity on my account and stating that, �your internet service will be shut down in the next 24 hours, if you don�t press button 1!� I immediately hang up.
There seems that there is no end as to what scammers are willing to go!

Actually...since I recently transferred from Sky to Plusnet I've had lots more scam/scam messages to my phone and gmail.

I have to say that in the 8 years that I have been with PlusNet when I've had problems with internet connections and that have been only twice they have sent an engineer and sorted the problems out. And as far as scam calls are concerned today was the first ever scam call I've had on the landline apart from a couple or so for accident or PPI calls from solicitors call centres.

I really cannot fault PlusNet customer services.

What possible connection could there be? Are you suggesting that Plusnet has leaked your phone number and Gmail address?

This particular scam seems to have started early this year with numerous reports on Whocalledme and similar sites. I've had a couple on PNet but neighbours with BT and Sky have had them too. Easily blocked but the *********s keep changing their spoof numbers.

The call has is not new this year, it has been going on for at least a year and possibly back into 2018.

I'm sure you're right, hard to keep up with individual versions of a common theme, while old favourites are still around -- last night my friendly Microsoft technician called to tell me of a fault on my computer

Love the Microsoft one, If my wife answers she's very enthusiastic and always asks ' Ooh what office, My husband is a investigator at Microsoft Digital crimes unit maybe you know each other'

I'm not.

Or somedays she takes the boring route of asking if maybe they can help with her Apple laptop.

If i dont hang up mostly i just say Oh' you work for microsoft can i take your name and employee number please.

The Sad thing is they must be making money at this or it would have died out long ago.

Yes, they only have to score once to make it worth their while. The Microsoft one responds very well to the following bait:
MS: I've called to help you with a problem on your computer. etc etc.
Me: Oh thanks, it has been very slow to start up this week, maybe it has a virus. Please wait while I go downstairs, I'm old and cannot move quickly. (mute phone for five minutes, put kettle on)
MS: Hello hello?
Me: Thanks for waiting, what should I do now?
MS: Click on this etc etc, and do etc etc. What do you see on the screen?
Me: Can't see anything yet. (Continue charade and realise you haven't turned it on. Wait another five minutes for slow loading etc) Make cup of coffee.
MS: Hello hello?? Are you there?
Me: sorry to keep you waiting, I've turned it on and the screen is on too. Do you want me to open Windows?
MS: Yes, then go to system (or whatever scam he has in his script)
Don't answer him, make hemming and mumbling noises, drink coffee, say I don't understand ..
Me: Thanks for waiting, it's very good of you, now I've opened the windows, do you want me to open all the doors and let the virus out?
MS: $****$*****$$ ! Click...

Part of the problem is that the perpetrators do not receive very harsh sentences. In a case in the news today 7 of the defendents were jailed for 16 to 44 months and one was fined £1,000. Those jailed may well get out when they have served just half of their sentences.
