How to contact Retentions phone number

[link to this post]

My 18 month contract ends this month.
What is the phone number to Retentions and try and get a reasonable new price for a new contract?

Just the normal number and then select the menu item "I'm thinking about leaving".

Alternatively there is a direct phone number for the 'Customer Options Team', who deal with retentions.

It is 0800 013 2632.

Seems to get answered pretty quickly.

Please if you can, post what deal you manage you get? It is useful to see what deals the reps are giving out to try to aim for something similar.

Hi @think26872
These are the offers I received from PlusNet.
My contract ends 22 July 2022. Should I contact PlusNet now or wait till the contract ends?
I received an email from PlusNet with the following confusing offers:

If you'd like to talk to us about your options give us a call on 0800 587 1943
1. Unlimited Fibre broadband and line rental for just £22.99 a month. 18 month contract. Add Unlimited UK & Mobile call plan to your package for an additional £10.28 per month.
Unlimited Fibre Broadband and Line Rental from £22.99 a month for the first 18 months, then from £41.75 a month. 18 month contract.

2. Available to you when you sign up to a 18 month contract and take Plusnet Unlimited Fibre Broadband with Plusnet Line Rental, by signing up online via the link provided in your email or by calling Plusnet by your contract end date.
For Plusnet Line Rental you pay £22.99 a month for 18 months, then £23.19 a month.
For Unlimited Fibre Broadband, you pay £0.00 a month for 18 months, current price from month 19 is £18.56 a month.
Exclusions apply.
The other offers are as follows though I do not need Faster as I live on my own and do not use Wi-Fi. I will not take the Unlimited Fibre Extra Broadband as I do not need faster broadband!
3. Available to you when you sign up to a 18 month contract and take Plusnet Unlimited Fibre Extra Broadband with Plusnet Line Rental, by signing up online via the link provided in your email or by calling Plusnet by your contract end date.
4. If you take Plusnet Line Rental at £23.19 a month you pay £3.80 a month for 18 months, current price from month 19 is £24.35 a month.
5. Exclusions apply.

6. Go faster with fibre
7. We think you'd benefit from switching to our brilliant Unlimited Fibre Extra broadband so you can do everything you love online, but faster.
8. Unlimited Fibre Extra broadband and line rental for just £26.99 a month. 18 month contract. Add Unlimited UK & Mobile call plan to your package for an additional £10.28 per month.
9. • Average download speeds of 66Mb

Confused by 1 and 2 above 1. “£22.99 a month for the first 18 months, then from £41.75 a month. 18 month contract.” Dose that include Anytime calls? And 2. “For Plusnet Line Rental you pay £22.99 a month for 18 months, then £23.19 a month. For Unlimited Fibre Broadband, you pay £0.00 a month for 18 months, current price from month 19 is £18.56 a month.”

I would be tempted for the Unlimited Fibre Broadband @ £22.99 for 18 months without the Anytime calls package but don't know how much Evenings and Weekend package costs.

I would contact them now if you want to stay with Plusnet otherwise you will start having the pay £40+ from your next bill date.

The email Plusnet send at the end of the contract is never clear it is easier phoning them and confirming the details.

Usually a good idea to see what other ISPs are charging so you can ask them to price match and have a clear idea of what you need.

Remember if you are not happy NEVER say you want to cancel just make an excuse that you will have to think about it. If you want to leave Plusnet your new ISP will do a migration and if you cancel with Plusnet your can't do that.

Phoned PlusNet on 0800 587 1943 to renew my contract which I did as I am quite happy with the service provided by PlusNet.

I was offered Unlimited Fibre Broadband and line rental for £21.99 per month for 24 month contract with no call packages which I accepted. A saving of £5.33/month on my existing contract which would have gone up to £41.75/month out of contract, all being that I now do not have a call charge which I don't need as I hardly use the phone.

The package offered in the email was £22.99 plus £10.28/month for Anytime calls for18 months so by ditching the Anytime calls which I never needed , I save £123.36 annual cost . The total cost would have been £399.24 annually.

I will now be paying £263.88 a saving of £135.66 annually. Being a pensioner living on my own and the cost of living on the rise this is a welcome saving.

Also worth noting that for much cheaper than £10.28/month - approx £6/month you could get a mobile phone sim with no contract that has unlimited inclusive calls to both landlines and mobiles if you find you ever need to make calls.

Remember that the costs will quite easily rack up if you use the landline. IIRC it is around 25p to just connect and then around 20p per minute so a "quick" 4 minute call costs £1! Stick a note on the phone to not use it!

You may find certain PAYG mobile sims are *much* cheaper for occasional use.

I am just not a phone person, I don't have many phone calls to make. I do have a mobile PAYG with Three which I use for texts and calls @10p/minute I do not use the mobile on the internet.

Even if I make a few calls it would not amount to £123.36 which was what I was paying for the Anytime package!

I wrote this post on another thread regarding a Plusnet retention deal I sorted out on behalf of a family member recently.

Basically the trick is to take a look at the market and see what price competitors are offering their broadband service for, and then call up and see if Plusnet will price match with them.

The price match I secured was with NOW Broadband at £21 a month (though NOW have since dropped the price to £20 a month, which I'd try and get Plusnet to match). Plusnet offered this on a 24 month contract - in comparison the NOW Broadband contract is 12 months, so that is different. Whether there's any wriggle room for retentions to be able to offer a shorter contract I don't know (though in this case the longer contract is in some ways more suitable).

With Plusnet there's also the annual CPI + 3.9% increase baked in, and with inflation and hence the CPI going up this is particularly worth noting - though many other providers also work to a similar formula, but at present NOW Broadband (and parent Sky) do not.

Regardless, I took it anyway as it was a saving over what they had been paying under the previous deal which had come to its end.
