HubTwo can be set to respond to pings.

[link to this post]

At the end of a recent visit, I was having a chat with the engineer and he told me that he believed that the PlusNet Hub One supposedly doesn't 'play nice' with Huawei cabinets. That's what I'm on so I've been able to get PlusNet to send me a Hub Two which is working fine.

While exploring the router interface I found that it can be changed to respond to pings so I've been able to set up a BQM again.... yaay smile

There must be a lot of Plusnet customers perfectly happy with Hub1 routers connected to Huawei cabinets so I would not pay much attention to the engineer's comment.smile

So, please share the information on how you changed it ...

Via the web interface Advance Settings/Firewall/Allow Incoming Ping change from default "No" to "Yes". **

Postman delivered at 9:50am, unpacked and plugged in at 9:55am, connected at 10am, setting changed and BQM running since then.

The discussion about Huawei cabinets was specifically about how long it was taking to sync. With the Hub One everything was fine once the connection was established but the time taken to do so was varying from ~ 5 to 15 minutes. I'm on a poor quality long line and my connection drops once or more times a day. The Hub Two synced in less than 5 minutes which is a significant improvement.

I'm also getting a good 5GHz connection over three floors of my house. Up to now, I'm very happy with it.

p.s. ** the web interface is totally different to the Hub One

Well that would be really very odd because the "Hub One" is just the BT Home Hub 5 with some tweaks, and it seems pretty unlikely the parent company who also run the wholesale networks, and own the last mile operator never thought to test them with those combinations... so I imagine the engineer was just talking out of his DSLAM...

Mea culpa. I've always said that I believe what I know to be true and repeating unsubstantiated statements helps nobody.

The Hub Two router does respond to pings though.

The engineer is making stuff up or is reporting issues to you that came to light over 7 years ago and haven't been an issue for at least 6 years now.

During the rollout of G.INP on Huawei cabinets Openreach found issues with modems that did not support upstream G.INP (Which the Plusnet Hub 1/BT Smart Hub 5A was 1 such device).
Some DLM tweaks quickly resolved the issues.

The ECI cabinets can't do upstream G.INP so it never affected them.

There will likely have been over a million of these devices ticking along perfectly well on Huawei cabinet for years.

My post was to draw attention to the fact that the Hub Two can be configured to respond to pings which was not the case with the Hub One. As I previously acknowledged, I should not have repeated unsubstantiated comments.
