Does Plusnet FTTP Use PPPOE Username/Password Like FTTC?

[link to this post]

Considering upgrading from a FTTC connection to FTTP connection with Plusnet.

Does the FTTP connection use the same PPPOE username/password type of authentication so it should be a simple swap over?

i.e. currently the router box (with PPPOE details entered) plugs into a modem box and the modem box plugs into the BT socket.

So I should just be able to plug my existing router box WAN port into the new FTTP thing BT will install with a RJ45 cable, the existing PPPOE details should be passed through and it should just work (the modem can just be "thrown" away)?

Thanks

Yes Plusnet FTTP uses PPPoE, if you're on Plusnet FTTC using your own router and seperate modem just ditch the modem and plug the WAN port straight into the Openreach ONT via a RJ45 patch lead after FTTP installation.

Great thanks for the information. Did you go from Plusnet FTTC to FTTP? Did Plusnet just keep the username and password the same when you switched from FTTC to FTTP? Did Plusnet update profile speeds automatically after the upgrade? Thanks

Isn't there (on all Openreach FTTP connections) the issue you need to remove mention of VLAN 101 when moving from FTTC ?

There might be but I think that is set on the modem side of things.

As I have separate modem and router I will be throwing the modem and the routers only "connection" type configuration will be just the existing username/password via PPPOE so for my case I should be OK and it should just work.

Not sure if there will be complications though and you have to connect once with the Plusnet provided equipment - if anyone knows and have gone from FTTC to FTTP with Plusnet and remember what you did more information would be great.

Thanks

No I didn't but try not to over think it, I don't believe your username and password will change as they are linked to your existing account (unless you didn't do a FTTC to FTTP migration and instead did a brand new account).

Rather suggest nobody is having any issues, like me. I'm happy with Plusnet.

My reading of the Plusnet forum suggests that the one excellent support has gone downhill in recent years with moderators/Plusnet staff having to pick up issues that call centre staff were unable to resolve.
I am back with them but I have no strong feelings about staying with them when my contract finishes.

If you want cheap, then between Plusnet / Vodafone / Talktalk I'd choose Plusnet.

Shame no static IPs any more though, and no IPv6.
