Weird visit from Openreach re PlusNet Full Fibre

[link to this post]

I put this under PlusNet because that's who I'm with, but could just as well be under "Openreach".

A perfect example of left-hand not knowing what right hand is doing?

I ordered Full Fibre 300 through PlusNet on 7 October after Openreach emailed me to say it was available at my address.

It was installed on 14 October by Quinns, contractors working for Openreach and has been live (for me) ever since, with one day of frequent disconnections due to PPP timeout errors (5 in total in 24 hours) after a two weeks with no problems.

I reported those to PlusNet and they said they had notification that Openreach were working on my exchange on a faulty card so it was probably that. It has been o.k. since.

Today (7 Nov) I had a visit from two Openreach guys asking who my fibre connection was with because it appeared to be connected to their CBT on the pole outside and it wasn't supposed to be because they hadn't fully commissioned fibre down my street yet, they were there doing checks on contractors work, before letting it go live in a few days. There is also a fibre running to a neighbours house from the same CBT.

I asked if I was in danger of being disconnected now, and they assured me not, but they couldn't understand how Quinns and PlusNet had made my service live when as far as Openreach is concerned, the service doesn't exist.

They said I was just lucky to get the service early.

Anyone else experienced the same, or is it just me?

Cheers,

Axolotl

In reply to a post by Axolotl:
they couldn't understand how Quinns and PlusNet had made my service live when as far as Openreach is concerned, the service doesn't exist.

That's a dumb thing for them to say.

The only way Plusnet could have ordered it is if:
1. The Openreach availability checker had said it was available to order; and
2. Openreach systems accepted the order; and
3. Openreach processed the order (e.g. dispatched the contractor for the installation, and configured the service on the OLT)

Therefore, if this was not supposed to be live and accepting orders yet, the fault must lie 100% in the Openreach database - i.e. someone at Openreach made it go live before it was supposed to be live.

Another possibility is that those Openreach guys were looking at the wrong part of the network (i.e. not the part they thought they were looking at). Or I suppose they might not have been Openreach guys at all, although if they were imposters, they had a very good spiel.

The availability checker says Full fibre is available to order, but then it did before I ordered it from PlusNet. That's why I started the order process on 7/10/25.

As in the other reply here, it seems someone at Openreach made it available before they should have.

Do you know if the checker said KCI2 Assure when you checked.
If it did when you orginally ordered an openreach engineer woul of visited to see if you had a live CBT ready for a second engineer to actually install the fibte to your house. The first engineer finding the CBT and realisng the install could be done they went ahead and did the install.

The second openrech engineer could of been the one who was booked to do the install but when he got there he found the CSP and the connection to you house so enquired if the install had already been completed and found it was. and completed the order.

When I ordered my service the survey engineer turned up and installed fibre csps to every house in my block on my order to make installing for other customers quick and easy he also completed my install on that day even though I had another appointment for the actual install to take place but he cancelled that one.
