You should have persisted. I've just had the same problem, I got fobbed off with their customer service telling me I couldnt get 16 meg in my area when i could in fact.. a neighbour had it, and a friend who got advice from this forum ended up on BBC News about it, and got 16 meg turned on the very next day. If you have still got your Sky connection, do try and get a ticket number for your problem, if its more than a week since you first contacted them, call them again and quote your ticket number, tell them you've looked on the internet and discovered that you need to speak to "Tier 3" the department who can sort this, Tier 1 (Customer Services) cant put you through but Tier 3 will call you back, and if they dont, search online and you will easily find a direct number for them. Which is what I had to do... Im not posting the number on here because (a) I lost it.. and (b) I was asked not to distribute it as Tier 3 is a very small team and cannot cope with demand from unhappy customers, this is why they normally call you back.. most of the time they do, but sometimes people slip the net. Once you get through to them, they are extremely helpful and know exactly what they are doing. As long as your exchange supports it, they turn on your ADSL2+ connection then and there, your router disconnects and reconnects and they'll check it for anomolies. The reason they told me that I defaulted to bog standard ADSL was that with my previous provider (Nildram) gave reports of a noisy connection so they went ADSL so I had a stable connection... they will turn it on to ADSL2+ if you ask them.. the cool part was they asked me to surf for a while whilst they monitored my line, and even though I'm able to receive 16 meg, they capped the speed at 14 meg for Stability. Once tested, they confirm it, told me it was all ok and I've been ok since.
I am now one happy chappie with a nice fast connection.. dont let Sky go yet.. give them the chance.. they will help out eventually..
