Thinking of switching from BT to SKY broadband

Hi, I'm thinking of switching from BT to SKY Broadband and I'm just a bit nervous about it. We have had a great service from BT, but the price from SKY is too good not to act upon. I am told I can get up to 1.5 mb download speeds due to the distance from the exchange I think.

I was just wondering if people have had mainly good experiences switching over?
Is the service good once switched over?
If the service is not good, can I switch back to BT or another provider easy enough?
Should I wait to cancel the BT broadband until the SKY service is up and running?

The first thing i would say if you decide to switch your ISP is not to mention CANCEL your broadband,you should request a MAC code to allow you to MIGRATE to another ISP,once you give your MAC code to your new ISP they will take care of the switch over.

i agree that the sky offer is too good to not take up, if anything i think you will get a better service from sky as they use there own equipment that used adsl2 which can give better speed/stability over longer lines, i pesonally went from 6meg to 8meg when switching to sky but that may have been the sky router helping me too.

my only problem with sky is sometimes webpages take a few seconds to show up where i found on bt it was instant.

You are locked into a 12 month contract when you migrate to sky but overall its still one of the best offers out there.

I have found sky to be outstanding. I just started gaming and sky lowerd my pings. on request.

I just moved my router to another room and my line started to drop. "We all like to think that our internal telephone lines faultless". However, Sky told me it might be a good idea to do a few checks.

As a result of the checks checks, I ripped out my old lines and now im burning rubber. IMHO for a fiver a monthe they would take a lot of beating.....

Ah thanks for your responses, I just called BT asking for my MAC code, but they said my contract with them doesn't run out until mid June, so will wait until June to get it.

They tried to offer me another package, �12.99 per month but thats only with 5gig monthly allowance, which is no good to me. One thing he did say was that did I know Sky can raise the cost of the package at any time, which I guess is a bit sneaky but I can"t see them raising is �20 in one year, which would then match my current BT package. So I think I will wait until the end of May and then request my MAC code and transfer to SKY.

If your BT packages does run out mid-June as you say then, assuming you still want your MAC to move to Sky or anywhere else for that matter, I would speak to BT mid-May rather than the end of May. You may find they will hold you to 30 days notice

I am with BT and decided to move because of the traffic shaping. I went for the mid package and phone. overall will save about �6 per month but with a 40 gig DL limit, which I am happy with, rather have that than phoney "unlimited"
