Signing up for Sky on my 2nd phone line...

[link to this post]

I wish to change to Sky Broadband from my current ISP but having carried out a phone line speed test I see that the line I currently use for the internet is only capable of accepting 512kb broadband.

My second phone line is capable of 4MB. I've just got the MAC code from my ISP for my existing line. What is the best way of getting Sky on my second phone line? Shall I tell them to start their service on my new number or get Sky on my existing slow line initially and then change it after it's been set up?

Am I right in thinking that starting Sky on my second line will take far longer than transferring it to my existing line?

Hope all this makes sense - I am a bit of a technophobe and ideally don't want to be without the internet for more than 24 hrs during the changeover as I work from home.

All advice appreciated

Many thanks in advance

Mike

The best way would be to get it on the line that you are going to keep it on.
So i would get it on the second line to get 4mb and keep it there as it will take a lot longer to get it on one line and then switch it to another line plus there is all sorts of things that can go wrong if you do that.

I have my Sky BB on a separate line to the main line on which the Sky boxes are connected. When I applied it was therefore much easier to ditch Pipex as I simply had to cancel that having established a connection with Sky on the other line. I even had a few days when I had two BB connections coming into the house. I only did this because I needed a second line for a fax which like you, I discovered, could cope with a better connection.

Sky don't mind which one you sue for either TV connection or BB just so long as it's the same address.
