I have just moved home to a new build house and I got Sky to come and install a new telephone line.
My postcode is EC1V 7LP and my exchange is King's Cross, so around 1.3 Km as the crow flies.
Today I got activated for ADSL and here are my stats:
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 4093 kbps 605 kbps
Line Attenuation 52.5 dB 32.7 dB
Noise Margin 7.9 dB 15.9 dB
Looks truly appalling, although the Openreach guy who came round told me the telephone lines in my area were really bad. Also, the BT ADSL checker indicated around 4Mb for my postcode (when I checked before having a telephone number).
Is 4Mb the best I can expect with 52.5dB? Isn't 52.5dB a lot for the distance to the exchange?
Where I was living before I was on 20 down 2 up (with O2), so having a 5th of the speed is pretty depressing.
And King's Cross is not even in the list for FTTC yet, so nothing better until 2013 at least! No idea if and when they upgrade the exchange to FTTC I would be getting better speeds on Infinity either if the cabling in my area is so poor.
I'd appreciate any comments, even if only for moral support
Dan
