ADSL2+ Sync / Speeds

In the real world speed tests i am getting just over 12Mb, i am syncing at 14158, which i guess puts me in the 12Mb band, if i can get the sync up to 15264 i should drop in the 13Mb band, the guy on the phone at sky said i should get about 16Mb, but i guess he got this wrong as i would have to sync at 18688 to get in the 16Mb band and i dont think this is possible with my line, am i correct with this or am i totally wrong, cause as i understand it, that is how it looks?.

Rather, it puts you in the 14 Mb band. When ISPs talk about speeds, they mean synch speeds and not throughput speeds.

Yeah i think the sync is actually 14Mb, but you dont actually get that do you, i would get around 12Mb speeds with a 14158 sync?.

Yes, but like I say your connection would be described as "14 meg" with your current synch. Throughput is a whole different matter and depends on many more factors.

Throughput is normally about 83% of Sync. So, yes, with a Sync of 14158 Kbps you should be able to actually download at about 11.75 Meg.

Dunno what bands you are imagining. Sky LLU is not operating with banded BT IP Profiles. Unless by "band" you merely mean "about".

Yeah hopefully i can get my sync up to around 15264 so i can get my speed band to 13Mb, not that 12Mb ish isn't fast enough.

Yeah by band i just mean (about), hopefully i can get my sync up to around 15264 which will give me 13Mb speeds, at the moment i am still connected at 14158 which is giving me around the 12Mb ish speeds, to be honest though i think its about all this line can handle, which is good enough really.

Post your router stats to see how it is possible to raise your Sync.

To tweak, you need a router that allows tweaking of Target NM like: http://www.kitz.co.uk/routers/dg834GT_targetsnr.htm

I notice you are quoting Sync Speeds and IP Profiles as "bands" from Kitz's Speed Calculator. You should ignore the IP Profile; they are not relevant to LLU. The "adsl2+ (LLU)" line is the one you want.

Your line should be capable of about 16 Meg as I told you elsewhere, but I doubt you yourself can tweak it with that Sky router.

Be patient! Remember you are only on the 2nd day of the training period. However I seem to remember that Sky's Target NM is 7 dB, whereas the norm is 6 dB. That could take up to 0.5 Meg off your Sync.
