Humming Sound

Not sure if this is for this forum, but i've noticed today that i've got a bad humming sound on my line, there is a lot of thunder about today so i'm guessing it might be that?.

DO NOT use wired telephones during thunderstorms!

Dunno if its wired or not, it is plugged in the telephone socket but the handset is cordless?.

Then it's cordless and not wired.

So the humming sound shouldn't be from the thunder then, what if this humming continues, should i contact BT?.

It could be the cordless phone causing that.

You would need to check with a corded phone to rule out any "wireless" interference, but maybe do it later when the bad weather has passed.

I dont think i have a corded phone to check it with, i read that you can change the wireless number or summat that the phone is on and that might solve the problem, how do i do this and would this actually solve the problem?.

Check your phone manual (or if there are any switches/buttons on the device).

It may help, it may not - trial and error.

What; and you think the several million volts [from a lightning strike] cleanly dissipates in the couple of feet between ground level and any cables in the ground, without sending any pulse up the cables?
But if you're so sure; go ahead - try it

Plus; in open space, wouldn't a large amount of metal below ground be more likely to attract the strike away from an area which is just dirt?
