Speed drops for no reason

On Friday it was running fine, downloading at roughly 16mb, yesterday it was at 1.8mb and now it is at 1.2mb. Done the normal checks etc - filters, wiring and changed wireless password (just incase). Router shows this -:

Which has been like that since the end of the ten day period, which was 6 months ago.
They did re-do all the wiring in the street just before xmas...so maybe somethings come loose.
Lodged a complaint with Sky...but 48hrs without a decent speed...arrgghh ..lol

When you say the speed drops do you mean that the figure in the data

drops from 16377 to around 1800 ?

Just checking, as it seems you are actually talking about congestion on the Sky network, which is entirely feasible. By 48 hours with out a decent speed have you tested at 1am to 8am?

Hi, no the figure in the data stays at 16377, when actually downloading, the figures are between 90 and 160kbps. Tried nearly all speedtesters and they all come up with the same figures......!
Yes just tried it, still at 160kbps, doing it after 1am might be a bit difficult.....like my bed.

That is a big drop if it is congestion on the sky network, never used to get that on BT or even in the good old days with AOL.

If the sync speeds are staying good then no need to worry about wiring.

THe price of Sky and its unlimited nature will be attracing the internet backup scene heavily, so if a few people have just discovered torrenting in your area then maybe that is the explanation. More may have opted for the more bandwidth hungry torrents than HTTP file lockers after Megaupload got closed and others changed their access rules.

Well it looks like there was something dodgy on my main pc, virus, trojan etc. For when I connected the laptop to the internet, I had full speed....doh.
But the worst thing now is, I have just lost over 2TB's of data, windows 7 decided to mix the drives up and I formatted the wrong one.....doh...doh.
