Thinking of Changing to Sky Fibre. Activation Questions

Hi all,

Sky Fibre is now in my area and I am thinking of changing to it but have some questions about the activation and router.

1, Is all Sky Fibre products now self install or do they require an engineer still

2, The other month when looking into moving to fibre the sky website and customer services on the phone said there would be a £50 activation charge but I no longer see this showing on the website under the package details. Is it now free if self installed?

3, How does the service compare to places like PlusNet or EE

Sky now offer self install with their new Sky Hub, this probably explains the removal of the £50 charge.

I know of several people with Sky Fibre Broadband and all get very good speeds (close or spot on with what was estimated by Sky)

Often opinion of each company is formed by price and customer service, I think you'll find the service provided by PlusNet and EE to be comparable to that of Sky but people may well argue PlusNet have better CS than Sky and EE worse. Personally in all my dealings with Sky their CS has been very good.

Sky are also giving away a free Wireless Extender at the moment which is a big plus in my eyes.

My current understanding of it is this:

Since 1st Jan, all new fibre installs are self-install.
Engineer install is available for £30 (if you ask for it)
The £50 activation fee still applies (although this may only be for new customers, I'm not sure)

The £50 activation charge for Sky fibre is still showing for me.

Just tried a fresh order as a new customer, activation etc was all free.

Seems like existing customers aren't so lucky. Thanks Sky!

When we upgraded to fibre, we asked the operator is we could have the 6 months half price and free activation. We got both . Sometimes you have to bite the bullet and talk to someone. that person may have the discretion to waive the fee, a computer will just apply it unless told otherwise.

Phoned up Sky at the weekend twice. First to be told the offer is only online for new and existing customers then the 2nd time to be told the offer for 6 months half price and free activation is only for new customers and no deals for exisiting. But as you say if you put the details in online as if you was a new customer they offer 6 months half price and free activation.
