The Good, the bad & (possibly, the ugly.)

I was planning on droping Sky TV and going with FreeSat in order to cut costs before ordering fibre from as yet an undetermined ISP. Just when I thought I had all of the information to reach a decision, Sky offered my a Fibre/Phone/TV deal-package that is the cheapest over one year.

A couple of niggling questions I would be grateful if anyone would assist by responding and offering perhaps valuable insight.

Is SKY Fibre any good? Reliable?

Is the difference between Sky Unlimited and Sky Pro just the speed?

Is the phone service any good? Reliable?

What is support like should I run into any problems?

Sky Fibre reliability is dependent on Openreach and the VDSL2 component so can vary from line to line, but generally throughput hits the physical limits imposed by your line and is reliable for video streaming.

Phone service, rarely use it, but when I do it works just as reliably as any other phone service.

Support - never had to bother with them in around 3 years.

Sky Pro gave some other options for old Be customers of static IP address.

With Pro you get the higher speed, plus access to the Pro support forums which are actually manned by support staff, unlike the main ones.

Also, you have the option of a static IP on Pro, but be warned that Sky apparently don't yet have equipment in all exchanges to support this (for FTTC customers), although they say they expect to by the end of the year.

Do you have access to the Pro forum? Any talk of Annex M? And what line profile options are there?

Sky fibre is great in my experience

Pro vs Unlimited - one is 40/10

the other is 80/10 with access to the "pro" forum and static IP address.

I downgraded to normal as pro didn't benefit me.

Phone service is generally good had a new outages but nothing terrible.

Support is in the uk and they at least try and help with the problem not too much reading from the script.

No sign of Annex M - the focus is on getting people on to FTTC instead I think. Line profile options for ADSL appear to be choose target margin (3, 6 or 9dB) and gaming mode (fast path) on or off. Looks like there's a web interface for this. I don't have access to this on fibre but it looks like they will change the line profile options (speedy, stable, etc) if you get them on live chat.

Thanks. I suppose having noise margin and fast path control is at least something. I had wondered if they would ever get around to implementing it. That, in addition to static IP addresses, really sets it apart from BT and TalkTalk's residential offerings.
