Hi,
I am curious to know whether anyone has had a similar problem to one I am experiencing now.
I currently live in a city centre in the North East of England. I have Sky Fibre Unlimited & Sky TV for £36.40 a month. I get top speeds on my package, but now I'm having to move even further north into Northumberland.
The village I'm moving to has been live with fibre for over a year now, but when speaking to the Home Move team at Sky, they're advising that it's not available, and to contact Openreach. In the meantime, Sky will cancel my broadband package, and leave me with just TV.
Other providers such at TalkTalk & BT/Plusnet are saying fibre is available. I don't understand why Sky think otherwise?
When ordering Sky broadband as a new customer, they're telling me it's available at my address. Is it worth just letting them cancel it through Home Move, and my partner taking out a new broadband contract as a new customer? That way they'd send an engineer round, right?
Thanks for reading,
Ashley

Maybe Sky LLU is not at the requisite exchange
Though odd to say available to new customers if that is the case

Yeah - I thought it was odd too.
Sky can offer standard ADSL broadband from my exchange though?
Edit;
Just found the SamKnows info;

Not sure what is going on, have checked an address on that exchange on Sky site and seems to want to offer FTTC but claims unable to check for ADSL2+ services.
Suspect the FTTC is actually run back to Morpeth exchange

Yeah - so confused
I would have thought my Exchange would be Widdrington Station, as that's where I live.
Wondering whether to take out a Fibre order with Sky and see what they say

Are you aware that Sky need to install a GEA link before they are able to offer FTTC?

Thanks for your posts guys!
I'm not aware; what is a GEA link then?
Could this be done when a customer orders fibre or is it done before they even offer fibre?

A GEA link is the connecton at the exchange from the Openreach fibre (coming from your FTTC cabinet) to the ISP's LLU network. However in your case that link already appears to be in place for Sky cos if i do a broadband availability check for The Forge Inn Ulgham, Sky FTTC is available. I suspect you may have to order as a new customer.

Thanks for explaining that  .
Well, I'm in Widdrington Station which is what I don't fully understand, heh. There's an exchange in Widdrington, and at least 5 fibre cabinets close to my property, yet all tests with Openreach website for my postcode says Ulgham

Are you sure? According to Samknows Widdrington is served by the exchange in Ulgham. What do you get when you put your postcode or tel number here?
