Line rental

Don't no if this has been covered is there any way of not having to pay this i don't use the land line mobile only so find it a waste of money for something i don't use

You see that cable that your internet comes down? That's what your line rental is for. Suck it up or buy a 4G dongle.

You say fibre, FTTH is , FTTC isn't because the latter more common option still uses a copper pair from the Street cabinet to your house ,hence why you have to pay a provider line rental

If you are on some form of FTTC, that land-line actually had to be lengthened by twice the distance from the existing PCP (Phone distribution cabinet), to the new FTTC Cabinet, ie the new link cables between the two.

If you have any form of alarm system working through the land-line before upgrading to FTTC, the full length of that land-line, including the two new links, is required for that alarm system to continue to function.

Subject to anyone else having better, up-to-date knowledge, it was also required for Emergency Calls.

Note the advice to use a land-line, automatically giving a definite location, compared to the uncertainties with mobiles.

If you use a VoIP service most providers ask if you want to register your VoIP number and address with the Emergency Services database.

For now no - but this may change in the future, but the combined price might not be lower, might be the same or might even be higher.
