Replacement router

[link to this post]

I'm looking to swap out my Sky router as the wireless on the SkyQ router is quite shocking. My old Thomson router used to give 50 meg download speeds on my TBB tests. the Sky router gives 20 meg at best, although wired it performs quite well. I have read things about the Sky wireless not being too great and I have to say, I can now agree. I seem to recall having a Billion 8800 (I think) router when on sky in the past. A lot of the routers I see mentioned now have prices in the mid 3 figures and a lot of the mentioned ones are no longer in production.

I would be interested in hearing what routers there are out there now as even searching for Sky compatible routers, a lot of the results are out of date.

Thanks

You could just turn off the wifi on the sky router and plus in the Thompson router (with DHCP disabled) and use the wifi from that. Certainly the cheapest approach.

If you want to replace the router on Sky you'll need one which supports DHCP authentication option 61

For me I used a Draytek Vigor 130 vdsl modem and a Draytek 2925 router.

ie.

Vodafone Fibre (Superfast2 - 80/20), Draytek 130, DrayTek 2925, DrayTek AP-910c x 2
(Gone but not forgotten: AP-700, 2820n x 2, 2800vg, 2800, HG612)

Speedtests:
ThinkBB - Mini | ThinkBB - Full | Speedtest.net

That sounds like a good solution, I will have to read up on how best to do it as a bit of a just plug it in and go person smile . Trying to find a resonably priced MER router is like trying to find rocking horse poo!!

Thanks

I had a Sky SR203 router, and a SoGEA phone service, and in this case I *had* to use the Sky router for the phone connection.

Not a problem for me, I told them if I didn't have a landline I wouldn't be migrating to them. The end result was that I kept mine smile
