Use BT Digital Voice Phones with Sky?

[link to this post]

Hi.

I've just migrated to Sky Full Fibre with Internet calls from BT Full Fibre with Digital Voice.

I was given the impression from the Sky rep on the phone that I would be able to use the BT digital voice phones with Sky.

I have my old DECT basestation plugged in to the Sky Hub and that's working fine.

But no idea how to connect the Digital Voice phones.
Is it possible or was I misinformed?

Any guidance greatly appreciated.

Don’t these belong to BT and when you quit , you are required to send the equipment back ?

Thanks. I had a Sky engineer out to actually install the dish and Sky Q box and he said he didn't think they would work either.

I have had an email requesting the return of the BT Smart Hub, But that's all.
So not sure if you have to return the handsets.

But if they only work with BT there's not much point keeping them anyway.

According to the specs https://www.bt.com/content/dam/bt/help/digital-voice... they are GAP compatible and CAT-iq 2.1 so it should be possible to register them with other bases. Without trying it is impossible to say, so give it a try.

Reset the handset first, then when it asks 'press and hold the WPS button on your hub for two seconds' during the registration process you should follow the instructions for whichever manufacturers base you have instead. e.g. 'press and hold the registration/paging key on the base for approx. 3 seconds.'

Yes the BT digital voice handset can be paired to a existing DECT GAP compliant base unit. This works ok but you loose all functionality of the phone bar dialling and receive calls.

I guess there are no PSTN-only DECT bases which offer anything more than GAP. As CAT-iq 1.0 (and later) has mandatory support for HD audio there isn't much point if you only have an analogue connection.

It would be interesting to know if a BT digital voice handset does interoperate more fully with something such as the Gigaset N300 (CAT-iq 2.0) or the Fritz!Box (not certified but supports CAT-iq 2.0 https://en.avm.de/service/knowledge-base/dok/FRITZ-B... )

Ok. thanks I may give this a go. I have a BT DECT basestation. But I'll have to dig out the instructions for registering a handset as the handset that came with it were already registereed.

But if it doesn't even enable the phone book, it's probably not wothwhile.

Thanks for all the info anyway.

Hi.

Just to finish this off.
I did manage to register one of the handsets with my old BT8500 DECT base.
However as suggested it only offers basic functionality. No phone book etc. So I probably won't pursue this any further.

Thanks again for everyones suggestions and comments though.
