Sky broadband nationwide outage last night

[link to this post]

Sky broadband had a nationwide DNS outage last night between 22:30 and around 01:30 this morning, does anybody know anything more about it?

All over the news: https://www.google.com/search?q=Sky+broadband&tbm=nws

I changed my DNS to 8.8.8.8 for the duration which fixed everything apart from Sky Talk VoIP.

Oliver.

Sky is still looking very sick on BQM. On an FTTC circuit in Surrey, problem started at 11.40pm Monday, with disconnections and bursts of high latency. Intermittent network congestion most of yesterday with further disconnections at 10.20am. Then a step in minimum latency from the normal 10ms to 30ms at 1.40am this morning and the bursts of high latency continue. No disturbance seen on Talk-Talk dependent circuits.

I didn't touch my router for the duration of the outage. It is showing no IP or DSL disconnections so in my case it simply seems to be a case of DNS servers which were not responding or not able to be routed to.

Ive never used my ISPs DNS servers. Alot of ISPs seem to have issues with them from time to time. OpenDNS have been flawless

If you use services that are delivered over Content Delivery Networks (CDNs) such as YouTube, Microsoft or Apple downloads, you may find things are faster if you use the ISP DNS.

Don't believe this is related to the nationwide Sky DNS outage, hope your issue gets sorted soon smile

Thanks. Yes, our issue was not DNS. It seems multiple things happened at about the same time. No-load latency stepped up, though less seriously, on a couple of Zen (BTW backhaul) circuits we have in other parts of the country. TT circuits we have in the same areas were unperturbed. Have got one of the circuits corrected now, with a change of routeing, and will have a serious look at the Sky one in a few days, if they don't fix it first.
