Sky Superfast 80 in a flat

Over on the General forum, I’ve posted about my predicament following a viewing of a leasehold flat that I’m eager to purchase.

The last residents never used Internet.

There is no full fibre from any provider at the flats, which are leasehold. Owing to BT’s switch off its analogue communications network by 2025 previously available products are no longer offered to new customers. It was a shock to run the BT Wholesale Availability Checker. It seems unlikely that I can get an 80/20 connection.

How are changes affecting Sky? A neighbouring flat has Sky Superfast 80. The Sky checker says it is available at the flat I hope to buy. Is this realistic? I thought Superfast 80 was a FTTC product and therefore dependent on the changing Openreach infrastructure.

This is NOTHING to do with the switch off of the analogue phone service (PSTN), the copper wires for FTTC/SOGEA are not being switched off, only the voice service that you plug a basic phone into the wall socket.

Sky use Openreach for the network to reach the home, so if there is no capacity left on the cabinet (there are more homes than capacity); this is why you are not getting a quote. If you order from a reputable ISP (Sky may be one) then they can add you to a queue for an upto 76 ("80") service over the copper Openreach wires.

If Openreach get around to this area and install FTTP cables then Sky (and others) can offer you their higher speed services, such as 150 Mbps. You may find other providers are cheaper still using Openreach cables in this situation.
