Zen's £34 special offer - what happens after contract

[link to this post]

Zen are currently offering a 1 gig deal (on CF at least) for £34. That ends 30 Sept and is down from £40.

I've never seen Zen offer a discount like this before. I know they won't increase the price during the 24 month contract, but what happens then? Will it revert to £40 or whatever the current price at the time is? They won't let people stay on on a month by month for £34, do you think?

Special discounts for new punters and a 24 month contract. Not the same Zen it used to be...

2024 September. Turnover: £121 million (up from £110 million the previous year). Profitability: Maintained a net profit of £320,000.

Seeing the figures for 2024 it probably doesn't want to be.

I'm curious too as I've been out of contract for a year but still paying the same £36/month for 500Mbps on CF ever since I joined. I don't really need 900Mbps but given it's £2 cheaper, it's very tempting.

Yes but remember you'll be locked into an new 24 month contract.

Meanwhile Aquiss dropped their price for 1 gig to £35 but only a 12 month contract. They also had a 3 month half price offer so I took that and did a One Touch switch.

I've been looking at Aquiss too, so trying to decide what to do.

How long is it before you are switched over?

48 hours or so. I ordered on the 23rd (a Sunday) and was live first thing on Wednesday morning. Just needed to change the login on the Fritz to the Aquiss details.

Today is the last day of their summer offer, half price for three months then its £35 for a gig.

And on Openreach it's 8 months half price (also until end of today).

I contracted a bit earlier on the 6 months half price deal.

It’s been very stable with only minor early morning glitches, otherwise tally stable the last 2 months or so…

I wonder if Martin will tell us here who provides backhaul for these 1.8 and 1.2G circuits from the OHP back to VeloxServ core?

Thanks, yeah I'm still trying to decide. Not too bothered about the 3 month discount, which would have been nice, but it's the longer term pricing and routing I'm more concerned about.

Until last month they were £40 (CF 1gig) with a special offer 6 month half price deal. They've now dropped to £35 (and had a lesser half price offer). I'm assuming £35 is the new permanent price, they're not going to increase it after 12 months as its the 'published' price. Aquiss say they're about to do some national radio advertising so I assume they'll want to be competitive and probably continue to have some half price months.

I've PM'd you a traceroute! To be honest I've not done a speed test since swapping over. Everything feels as with Zen. Only change I made was to switch the DNS away from Google which appears to be Aquiss's default. I have a couple of VPN site to site connections and they kept running as if nothing had changed. So far so good!
