Considering AAISP

[link to this post]

I've been tempted by AAISP for a while, but always found their caps way too low, untill I realised the other day that they are only 8am to 6pm caps

As its uncapped outside this (the only time I'm home) I figured they could be worth a shot, and I must say I'm interested in the fact that they seem to market to technical users.

One thing tho, do the caps apply during 8am-6pm on bank holidays and the like? Or is it only normal working days?

someone from staff will answer more accurately
but i do believe that it did include bankholidays
ie BH's are exaxtly the same as any other monday

since there are only 9 of them in the year ... its hardly a big difference

ive found with some small amount of discipline despite being in the uk most of the month ive managed to keep to 2.36GB last month im out of the country now for 5 more weeks so sticking to that level will be easier i dropped my account from 5GB premium to 3G premium at

Generally, they're very good - they have a lot of cool features that most ISP's don't...

Their support people are very clueful, and you can speak to them on IRC/on usenet as well as on the phone and by email.

The caps do apply on bank holidays, but over Christmas etc. they generally don't meter usage.

"They have 2 155mbit Centrals, and that gives them a lot of spare capacity. "

Shush.

Surely you know what happens when ISPs have spare capacity and the U word is mentioned, even if it's only U off-peak.

Oops.

I think the headline prices and low daytime limits put most leechers off, thankfully.

Adrian would do something if people were beginning to take the [censored], imo.

Off peak usage will get capped if it becomes a problem. If anyone's signing up thinking that they can use the service flat out for the full off peak period they're totally misguided.

"<RevK> To be honest, rather than shaping, if off peak became a problem, I would be tempted to say that from 6pm to 10pm counts X% to usage, e.g. 10% or something - that kind of thing, but that would not be something I would do lightly"

Since when have details like that bothered the waifs and strays

Anyway it's good to hear that Rev K is aware of the risks and the possible "solutions".

Heh.

It gives you an idea of what could be considered [censored] taking. The numbers RevK mentioned would mean a 30GB/month evening time cap. (Of course, you can read too much into a one line remark on IRC.)

"you can read too much into a one line remark on IRC"

You can read too much into a one line post from an ISP on AG too - but the one I was specifically thinking of, one less than 48 hours ago from a smaller ISP saying they were still unthrottled and unlimited, seems for some reason to have disappeared ...
