odd, connected to old ISP ??

[link to this post]

I have today migrated to AAISP, but when i got home from work at 5pm, i was still connected to Nildram, or at least the router was still configured for Nildram, and i was able to surf the web etc.

I changed the settings to AAISP, and was able to connect to them, so why was I still able to connect via Nildram? I'm new to ADSLmax BTW.... :-)

My SNR is also now very low, about 7 - 10, which is way down on what it was (circa 23) when I was on fixed 2Mb with Nildram. Is this likely to improve*, or do I now have a battle to get BT to improve things back to how they were?

Loop attenuation is steady at around 23.5, and I am well within 2km of my exchange, a lot less as the crow flies.

*i realise i must wait a few days for everything to settle down, but i don't know if SNR is a consideration from the start, and will eventually rise.

low SNR (was : odd, connected to old ISP ??)

Just discovered on the AAISP IRC channel that it's perfectly normal for the 2 connections to overlap during the migration stages.......

I'm now just worried about my SNR!

For the first few days after switching to Max, your SNR and sync rate will probably bounce around quite a bit. It will settle down, but the stable figures WILL be lower than what you saw on 2Mbit.

When I went to Max, my downstream dropped from 29.0 to 6.0dB, and upstream dropped from 27.0 to 21.0dB. I'm about 1Km as the crow flies from my exchange, but closer to 2Km line length.

I'm about to migrate in to AAISP, and switching to a MaxADSL Premium product. It'll be interesting to see how low my upstream SNR drops.

As you have moved from a fixed 2Mb to a MAX product this is to be expected. To maximise your sync speed when first connected to MAX, BT sets a target SNR of 6db. If you subsequently suffer frequent disconnects BT will raise the target SNR and your sync speed will decrease.

Quick update... I've now migrated in...

Downstream SNR remains around the 5-6dB mark, with upstream currently sitting at 9dB...

And I'm cruising at 6.6Mbit/sec down, 700Kbit/sec up. The line's clocking up a few errors an hour, but nothing major.
