I've been with AAISP for a while and rarely seen it even slow down - they have plenty of capacity... even more now they've switched everyone to IPSC.

Well, nearly everyone. I'm currently stuck out in the cold since BT jumped the gun this afternoon.

I don't want to risk re-booting my router just yet, otherwise I'll likely loose my BRAS profile which I've had for months, but likely would be reduced when I initially sync too fast and then get knocked down by BT (as has happened in the past).

So currently accessing internet via my Vodafone 3G dongle and can see what happens tomorrow morning. Nothing urgent happening tonight for me to start jumping up and down.

Just gets me that BT seem to undermine the excellence of A&A by not living up to their expected capability.

No doubt other ISPs will have taken a hit this afternoon. At one point my Vodafone 3G dongle would not sync - considering Vodafone's 3G mast is about 150 metres away from me and visible through the window, made me wonder how that mast communicates back to Vodafone. It is a wooden pole variety, no microwave dishes but BT were there when it was commissioned and there is a newly laid duct across the road to a BT manhole. Make you think...

You'd be right, the mast is connected to the landline network.

Yeah, I didn't word that too well. The point I was making was that I bought the Vodafone 3G dongle due to the proximity of their 3G mast, as a back-up to my ADSL connection. However, since the mast and my house likely connect to the same BT exchange, with the initial lack of my 3G dongle 'seeing' the mast, I wondered whether I have inadvertently not improved my reliability?

Anyway it is connecting fine now, indicating maximum signal on the connection wizard and Excellent Signal on the task-bar.

Indeed I consider AAISP to be the best ISP around.. except for the fact they have to rely on BT, which spoils it.

LLU can't come fast enough, IMO.

As long as the connection remains a quality connection "Off peak" when the greater allowance is available and when I play online the product could serve me well.

Here's a pic of my line usage which for 3 days wasn't being used at all.
The green area on the bottom of the charts shows the MAX (So worst case) ping times as they vary through the day so should give you some idea of how the network performance varies by hour.

You're either on 21cn/ADSL2+ or 20cn via IPSC.

There's no third option any more. If you're having problems like that contact A&A* as that's not normal.. BT are known to have screwed up their capacity planning and that affects at least 2 exchanges in different ways - Basingstoke and Watling Street.

You should never get slowdowns of that magnitude on A&A - their stated policy is never to be the bottleneck on a connection. If you do then it's likely someone at BT needs hitting with a cluebat.

* IRC tends to be fastest, but the other methods work as well.
