Migrating over with an existing fault

Hi,

I am currently with Zen and there is an existing fault on the line, I will have a second engineer visit this Saturday. I hope there is a resolution but if not I want to explore options.

I live a fair distance from the exchange as my attentuation is 63.5db (the engineer told me it was 66db I think). So I accept that there will be some issues. However I get daily resyncs and my BRAS drops to 135/250 but when the connection was stable my profile was 1000 however the line has worsened over the past 6 months.

If I wanted to migrate to AAISP who advertise the offer of taking on a fault - do I also have to buy your equipment? I understand you make a promise of refunding if a fault is not resolved - so I wanted to price it up.

I can answer this one, because I've been there and had the T-shirt ! smile

You don't have to purchase a router from AAISP - the router is yours at no charge until you cancel the contract, but you can opt out if you wish. I was with Zen, and I had a fault that dragged on - with Zen it was like watching a train crash in slow motion. I can't guarantee that AAISP will wave a magic wand (neither will they), but at least you will be part of the loop, and not a helpless bystander. It really didn't take me long to realise the value of AAISP's line monitoring either.

Thanks for the information.

So far I have been impressed with Zen, they have been pro-active with me with a single point of contact.

It is just whether this can be translated into the engineer visits and work being carried out.

However it is good to have options in the bag.

Watch out you don't get the same as me my migration happened today and AAISP called me up wondering why they had just been billed for an SFI visit...

As an ex field engineer i've got loads of my own too:

GP surgeries used to runk links overnight via dial up to pick up lab results, got a call to say modem not dialling out and no response on the line when dialling in.

got there line dead, talked to the staff, oh BT were here yesterday as all our phone lines went down, BT engineer said he found a spare line that wasn't being used....

Yes it was a live line that he thought was dead and stole the pair for their main line.

Genius.

Co-ops used to auth credit cards with a Racal TCL 280 which was basically a 14.4 modem, can't auth credit cards, call BT up got the usual no fault on the line, after hanging up run a test and now all magically working - that must have happened about 50 times over the 9 years I worked for that company

Things don't change, at least BT certainly don't frown
