Home::1 1TB quota increase

[link to this post]

I've just seen that, as of August 1st, the Home::1 1TB tariff is changing to 2TB

https://aastatus.net/2535

Happy to take the increase (though I'd actually have preferred a price cut instead) but it doesn't really affect me (yet) as I generally use less than 500GB anyway. Still, nice to know that there's plenty of headroom as usage patterns change smile

I wonder how many people really push the limit on the 1TB service now?

We have a whole mix of customers, many like you find 500GB to be plenty, others (especially with Kids and especially with Kids at home in the holidays) are reaching 1TB - the Quota bonus helps, but we still see an increasing number reach their quota.

Possibly a price cut. That’s what they did when they upped all 40/10s to 80/20. My bill went down by £10pm. I was rather pleased!

If you're on 2TB at the moment then that sounds like our SoHo::1 tariff - if so this is being increased to 5TB/month.

Well once my contract is up then I might as well downgrade to Home::1 from SoHo::1. Last I heard they offered a block of IPv4 on Home::1 (an announcement earlier this year) and now the quota is 2TB so no point in paying extra just for the sake of mainly business class tongue. I don't need the upcoming 5TB quota.

Finding it difficult to justify the higher cost that AAISP charge, yes I know that the service is second to none etc etc, but my sky discounts are ending and Virgin are dangling a extremely attractive carrot (only £25 more for their top VIP package with all services).
Her who should be obeyed looks like she will win on this one, not that I will see any of the £50+ monthly saving........

Yes I know, but £600 PA is a lot of money!

As in services I mean top TV with movies/sports, top BB package, phone with all day inclusive calls.

I'm currently on the 1Tb package, total cost is £65 monthly (phone is with a different provider).

Usage is 600Gb monthly on average.

No not ISP email, have own domain.

It's irrelevant (for) now, but you may or may not be aware of the allowance roll-over. Each month half of what you didn't use in the preceding month is added to your purchased allowance. This is cumulative, and will work on the new 2GB product.

For example, I'm on 200GB. 1 May I started on 371GB; 1 June on 365GB and this month 369GB. Even a 1GB allowance would have given you well over 1GB every succeeding month that you didn't use it.

Sorry Phil. I meant to backtrack on that post of mine, but read your reply just before going for a shower then forgot. This post by djfunkdup reminded me.

I misread your "Virgin" as "Vodafone". VM will probably be fine once the installation is done, though I hope you've checked how it performs in your area. It can be variable, from what we see posted here, particularly wrt latency which can affect gaming.

To be fair to Bob in many areas VM used to be rubbish, mine included. They stripped the sale of 350 off the website for my area for just over a year -but when it did return its as fast as ever - never have a problem with it and currently pay £42 for the res line - the Business one is £69 but that's got a mobile and landline in it too.

Note, it was all a mistake by me anyway. As for him walking away after the trial, which he most probably won't need to, if the house hasn't have VM before it isn't all done miles away is it wink.

For instance I considered it when I closed my office and retired, as we had no internet at home. Although the initial few feet of the underground cabling would have been easy (though across a lawn not at the side), a considerable amount of block paving would have needed lifting and re-setting.

My house didn't have it and they just put a piece of hose pipe through the bush - then did the connections etc.. It was severely poor enough to starve the Tivo of the 100Mbps it needed - they let me walk away after tech support told me the fix time was a piece of string scenario. This time around I cannot fault it - although I don't believe in using a res service for business so I have one of both - but tempted to swap one for AAISP. I did place an order with them before but VM basically cut my service down by £50 a month so I stayed for the rest of the contract. (£19 for 350/20 who wouldn't stay!?)

Some people don't want their gardens tampered with - and that's understandable

Times have changed and I hope it works out for him either way.

Thanks for the replies guys.

Ive been with VM before so know what to expect! Coax is already in the house and still live.

No worries regarding Vodafone (currently unraveling them from my sisters landline/BB where they slammed her during a mobile phone contract re negotiation! But thats for another forum, suffice to say they have lost 5 different accounts over this incident!).

I was with VM a few years ago, left due to variable BB and TV services. I am assured that things are much better, and asking around nearby it does seem to be the case. As long as I can put the modem/hub in modem mode I should be OK.

Im assured the 30 days trial still applies and I will walk should the BB not perform, Kids dont game much so shouldn't be an issue......

It is just less of a reason to use it now unless you have a need with kit - most people did it for stability but that's sorted now (i think)

Fair question for the paid for L2TP service though...

In your example you'd be using your DSL login for L2TP access so you're just using your normal quota i.e. 2TB?

Fair question for the paid for L2TP service though...

Ah so that's how it would work. I thought as much - I've just asked about the quota system in the IRC and I understand it now smile

Well done to AAISP for announcing a 50% increase to the basic 200GB package from the 1st December.

300GB...whoopee doo. Plenty of CPs out there who offer the same (or better) level of support as AAISP yet they offer truly unlimited usage (no FUP) as standard on all of their packages. Such as Fluidone, Trunk Networks & Structured Communications to name a few. Bandwidth limits are soooooo yesterday..... frown

Ah!
smile

My excuse is there was an 8 or 9 post spammer, and I remembered I had over 300GB allowance for a long time when with them. That memory being because I had around 150GB of rollover every month.

If you recall, AAISP got rid of the 300GB data plan and customers got 2TB for the same price. Those of us on the 200GB plan were left as was. I confess that this business decision encouraged me to look at what else was on offer, but I concluded that the service level offered by AAISP - along with the ability to switch plans each month and the 50% data rollover - was enough to encourage me to stay. The increase in the base product data allowance makes staying with AAISP that much easier. In my view, it is worth paying a small premium for a broadband connection that rarely misses a beat.
