VMG3925-B10B users

Hi,

I've taken the option of the free ZyXel VMG3925-B10B gateway with my subscription and am curios to known who else uses this device on their line?

I'm currently using a Billion BiPAC 8800AXL R2, which is a great device with the coverted BCM6316* chipset onboard. Have any of you have compared the performance of a similar spec device (8800NL, ZyXel VMG8324/ 8924-B10A etc), with the VMG3925?

BCM63167 isn't the same as the BCM63168 and synced some 2Mb lower on my line.

I've also never heard anyone praise the BCM6316*
I've seen hundreds praise the BCM63168, and some praise for the newer BCM63138 though.
I also regard the BCM63169 as a poorer chipset compared to the BCM63168.

Always avoid those with a 3 as the 3rd number, like the BCM63381. They are the Broadcom budget range.

The ZyXel VMG3925-B10B is an excellent device with a BCM63168 chipset.

It may have the extra common mode noise filter only found on some other ZyXEL models but I haven't seen a picture of the board to confirm this.
The ZyXel VMG3926-B10B definitely has it so I would assume the VMG3925-B10B does.

I have tried the 3925 on my line and got a few meg less sync than a 1312-B10A so I keep it as a spare to replace my Asus router and not as a modem in a two device setup.

I have a 3925-B10B and am on a long rural line of about 3300m from the FTTC cabinet. I sync at pretty much exactly the same as my HH6 does (usually around 8650 / 1130).

I picked the 3925 on the advice of the folks at kitz and once flashed (and cracked for the supervisor password), I find it does its job on a long line perfectly.

I have it in Bridge mode of course with an ASUS RT-AC86U as router.

I've seen it stated that the 8800AXL R2 uses the BDCM63167 but I'm not convinced. I've used the ZyXel VMG8924-B10A and BiPAC 8800 AXL on my line, which both use the BDCM63168 chipset and the R2 syncs at exactly the same rates, actual and attainable (usual give and take aside). The R2 directly replaced the 8800 AXL actually.

As you've stated, the VMG3925-B10B does indeed use the BDCM63168, which I've realised since posting up this thread. For some reason, I was sure I read it used an inferior chipset and so gave lower syncs when compared to 63168 equipped modems.

I'll use my current 8800AXL R2 when I first get switched over and try the VMG3925 after a period of time and compare.

That suggests AA install their 'own' FW on the devices they supply?!

No, we don't.

To my eye that image doesn't have the noise filter.

Your AA page here states

It's believed that the VMG3925 has an extra common-mode noise filter on the telephone line. Kitz discussion

It then links to a discussion about 2 devices, that confirms a different device has the filter.

The VMG3926-B10A has the filter in but I'm not so sure the
VMG3925-B10B does unless they changed the shape/look of the filter.

Thanks for the confirmation. The OP must have the same device from another ISP. Or I simply interpreted his comment wrongly.
