Any AAISP FTTP900 users care to share speed test results?

Currently getting a bit tired of the issues I'm seeing on my GEA migrated Zen line, interested to know what results AAISP FTTP900 package users are typically seeing; for instance speedtest.net / other speed tester results, BQM, etc etc. Typical results please, not once in a blue Monday with a good wind behind! smile

Moved to AAISP a couple of months ago. BQM in signature. Up until a month or so ago the BQM on Thinkbroadband was not good looking, but in response to a thread here it was picked up by AA and some changes were made. It appeared specific to the routing to Thinkbroadband, oddly didn't effect speed tests on TBB that went the same route. I mention this as if you look back over posts you might see references to poor looking BQM charts at TBB.

The higher speed packages are newish for AAISP, and so we connect via new (faster) Firebricks, and as I understand it these are kind of prototype boxes and have gone through a number of firmware updates improving performance, this means there have been a few scheduled overnight drops, and some minor teething problems, all transparently spoken about in their news section (https://www.aa.net.uk/etc/news/fb9000-lns-progress/) and on their status pages (https://aastatus.net/timeline-view.cgi). Of course these updates and issues are not unique to AAISP, the difference is AA don't hide them behind a service status page that constantly says "All systems currently operational" or immediately delete historic issues once they are resolved!

I've not noticed any regular congestion issues, there has been the odd time where there is what appears to be congestion, again this in the service status page and was it seems due to the new Firebricks running firmware not yet optimised for them. I would think some more boxes will get added to give more headroom once they can get them when supply issues ease.

Some sample speed tests (note my router has QoS enabled and various priority queues and so top speeds always fall a bit short than maximum obtainable to avoid buffer bloat) .

Fast.com: 920Mbps

I'd also be very much interested in this, real world data.

I'm currently with A&A on a VDSL connection, which has been flawless, but hoping to be able to order FTTP in the not too distant future.

My friend is on BT Full Fibre 900, and get's 920-923Mb/s every single time, no matter what time of day it is. He's never seen it dip below.
Same on upload, 110-111Mb/s every time without fail. Pings are 5ms to bbc.co.uk from Lincolnshire.
That’s from speedtest.net

Via steam and battle.net he can pull 112MB/s all day long.

Personally, I'd like to stay with A&A for multiple reasons, I just hope I would see the same performance as my friend on BT. Admittedly he’s in a rural location with only a handful of other properties nearby which have FTTP, none of which are on the 900Mb package.

Thank you, much appreciated. Nice results, and certainly very interesting to see the proactive approach of their staff to the few issues you mentioned.

I did have a look at their status page, makes comforting reading. I can't see many firms fessing up to something like this:

"Resolution: We caused a network loop between two of our switches in one of our London datacentres. This was caused by loading wrong software variant on to one of our test FireBrick FB9000 routers; the software variant that was loaded didn't have the LACP feature and when the FireBrick booted it caused a network loop. This caused a broadcast storm and general chaos until the switch disabled the ports. We do apologise for the inconvenience this caused customers this afternoon, lesson learnt and software builds have been changed to include LACP in all variants."

Its a big cost difference to swallow, £54 for BT vs £85 for AASIP

Especially if your expectations are to achieve the same performance as your friend

and if you went with the cheaper package for £75 per month you only get 500 gig...

With a 900 meg connection you could use your monthly allowance in about an hour and a half
