VoIP spend cap

[link to this post]

I currently have a VoIP line with Gradwell for my business. Prices have been creeping up over the past couple of years so I've been looking at alternative providers.

I already have Internet with AA so I'm considering porting my VoIP number to their platform.

Does anyone know if AA's VoIP platform allows you set a monthly spend cap (or just bar outgoing calls altogether)?

From looking at my AAISP VOIP portal, it looks like you can:
1) Set a monthly spending WARNING level (not a limit)
2) Set outgoing call price per minute limits for UK and international calls (could set it to bar all but free calls for both)
3) Set it so that only certain IP addresses can make outbound calls
4) If you enable the "allow list" for outbound calls it uses the "also rings" inbound list as an allowed calls-to numbers list. But you lose "also rings" inbound functionality. I don't know why they've done that, seems a bit arbitrary. So you can't make inbound VOIP calls also ring your mobile in that situation.

I'm sure you can make something acceptable with the above?

You can't have a spend cap but as stated you can set maximum rates for each call - so people can't get conned into calling a £1/min line and be kept on hold for 30 minutes.

Hard spend caps in business services aren't always a great idea - what if the person responsible for lifting the cap is not contactable but you need to place an important call?

The other option might be to look at your usage and see if a provider like Voipfone with their call bundles would be a better fit.

Voipfone would be a better choice for you IMHO.
