Migration to AAISP cityfibre how?

[link to this post]

Hello

Im looking to migrate from Giganet to AAISP via cityfibre however I'm confused. How to i start a migration order?. I cant find anything on their website about it.

I read after the migration is completes it will automatically generate an invoice is this a pro-rata invoice or will it be for a full month?.

If anyone else has done a migration on Cityfibre to AAISP i would like to hear how the process works.

I need to get away from Giganet ASAP as they have changed me over to their new "Network 2" which is stuck behind CGNAT. I have tried requesting a static IP but there is a problem in their system at the moment and a static IP is top priority for me.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks alot

CityFibre is a newish thing with AAISP and not all routes to getting connected are covered on their website.

I would simply contact them and ask the question, many ways including live chat and IRC see https://www.aa.net.uk/etc/contact/

Let us know how you get on.

I migrated to AAISP from Giganet for exactly the same reason.

Unfortunately Cityfibre haven't really got a streamlined process for migrations yet, and my migration was a bit of a nightmare that left me without a connection for 4 days, and I had to tether to 4G.

But I just couldn't live with CGNAT so I had no choice to move. AASIP were very helpful but they're at the mercy of Cityfibre's procedures so were limited as to what they could do.

The procedure is basically:
1. Give existing ISP notice, make a note of the end date of your contract
2. Tell AAISP the end date; they have to wait until the the connection is marked as inactive before they can take it over, but will usually try to take it over the same or next day, but as I found out that is not guaranteed.

That's leaving me slightly worried as I'm leaving Giganet on Friday for Zen. Zen have assured me that it's a simple switchover and it's no issue. I've also read there is a new process now at Cityfibre for handling migrations. If it all goes well on Friday I'll post back to confirm whether Zen have it all sussed.
AAISP I'm using for VoIP already but for our usage it's way too expensive, Zen was 300/300 for £32

I phoned AAISP and i was told that i didn't need to contact Giganet for a cease date. If i start a migration order my cityfibre line will automatically be taken over by AAISP with a 10 day lead time due to Ofcom regulations. So hopefully there will be no interruption in service just a straight switch which is alot better than it used to be.. Do let me know how the switch goes because i assume now Zen are doing the same as AAISP.

One thing i cant make sense of is the billing, I spoke to their online live chat and asked when the frst payments would be due and i got this response:

We will have to notify you for 3 consecutive direct debit collections and after that we can start collecting on your chosen dates. I certainly hope those first 3 DD's are not expensive!.

No idea what this means can anyone shed some light otherwise i might have to ring them again to get a clearer answer.

I had same. Giganet indicated they needed 30 days notice, but that's waived by the gaining provider initiating the switchover. So, it was 2 weeks (10 working days) for me.
I'm 99% confident it's going to plan, but.... this ispreview - yayzi install issues no internet has me concerned, but then it's Yayzi, so I took this with a pinch of salt as unlikely when working with either Zen or AAISP.

I’ve also recently moved to the Giganet network 2 and in cgnat.
They have given me an ipv6 address but at present the eero and also my own router does not have ipv6 port forwarding, which would overcome the cgna. I’m lucky that I have been able to overcome most of my cgnat issues by using clodflare tunnels.

I hope you don’t mind me asking, but what has it stopped you from doing ?

CityFibre have improved their 'internal' switching process recently, so moving a CityFibre connection between ISPs (staying on the CityFIbre network) should be easier now. Do get in touch with us.

You don't need port forwarding with ipv6 as each device on your internal network gets its own routable address. So to allow access to a particular machine & port from outside you normally just need to allow it through the firewall.

Smooth transition. Mostly whilst asleep! Connection went down at midnight. At 2am Zen emailed to say works had completed. I was up at 6am and entered my new pppoe credentials. all working immediately.
Just need to get ipv6 addressing configured and I'm all set.
