Re: I've signed up

Coincidentally this morning my next door neighbors had external fibre optic cable installed. Kellys did the work (on behalf of OR) using the existing ug duct and did not disturb the copper line. An engineer will apparently be coming later in the week to do the internal work.

I had Kellys for my FTTP installation, more than two years ago, and the guy did a good job but in my case he also did the internal work ensuring that the connection was activated before leaving. He also did not disturb the ug copper line That was on behalf of OR and aquiss.

Yes during the work I was expecting a blip on my DSL but OR managed to install the fibre without disturbing the copper. Even left the terminal post in place.

In many cases the UG lead in duct is in situ, clear, and easily houses more than one cable.
In Tim’s case, the original feed was direct in ground, but had been damaged at some point (my guess would be when the drive was relaid) to provide temporary service a length of overhead dropwire was used …. this for whatever reason was backfilled. As a result, after many years Stirling service, what was never meant to be UG failed.

The faulty length was replaced with a ducted length resolving the issue.

There are many more DIG lead ins out there, but for you, your neighbour, and after some shenanigans, Tim’s UG FTTP provides were reasonably pain free.

Do you plan on having two routers powered on and connected: one feed from the OLT and the other from the NTE for a short while after FTTP is activated and prior to going to VoIP?

Does each individual FTTP ug install instruction specify whether or not a copper line should be left in place and not disconnected?

I only have the one ethernet cable from downstairs to upstairs to my Asus router. I could move the router downstairs but that mucks up my mesh. So the quick answer is no and it will be a swap from the downstairs modem to ONT I am hoping.

It didn’t back in my day, but then things change. Back when I started fitting it , FTTP was the exception rather than the rule, we tended to leave the copper feeds in situ in case punters wanted service from a non FTTP CP in the future.

So the initial setup will be: ONT downstairs and the AA PPPoE configured Asus router upstairs connected via an ethernet cable. TTB analogue voice only from the NTE and extension(s)?
